I agree that we have to sign better or not bother at all, however I don't think it'd take a top striker to improve on what we have.
Crouch is poor, Defoe was poor, Pavlyuchenko scored the most but played the least. Ergo, he's the best, and I'd say he's got alot of talent, his goals against Birmingham, and for Russia, are immense. It'd take a top striker to bettre him
I agree that Pav is the best of our bunch and that he doesn't usually get enough chances but he's not faultless. He has been lazy in the past and for me he's not enough of a presence in the box and he lacks pace which hinders us when we counter attack. For me Gyan has what Pav lacks and vice-versa and he's definitely better than the other two which is good enough for me.
Yes he has been lazy, but not as bad as Berbatov, and we loved him mostly. He's not that slow, well, nowhere near as slow as Crouch for example. He's not great in the box, but he can place the ball fantastically, and can shoot with power well too
One of the problems for us last season was not having anyone in the box when Lennon or Bale had the ball so I'd say that having a presence there is essential. Crouch might be slow but he was better at holding a position higher up the pitch, hence why he was able to get into the right position for Bale's cross against Inter and Lennon's breakaway against Milan and he was often just a whisker away from any low ball across the 6 yard box. I think Pav is great but I'm just pointing out that we could do with someone like Gyan doing what Defoe should've been last season. Of course I'd love Aguero/Drogba/Forlan/Hulk/Falcao to sign for us but I don't think they're realistic options, so a player of Gyan's quallity maybe the best we can get.
RE Random92 Assou Ekotto isnt that good ??!!! Have we been watching the same spurs this season ? Regarding Rose taking over from him lets not get too carried away. Yes im delighted with rose performances in the last 4 games and it is great we now have competiton at lb but Benny is one of the top 4 leftbacks in the prem !!!
BAE has improved his defensive side, but remains a total liability in possession, which undermines any good defenisive work he does.
BAE isnt a total liabilty in possession, Most spurs fans think he was up there with modric as tottenhams player of the season. The guy is a top left back. Harry seems to think so aswell.........
Seems it to me. Gives the ball away an awful lot with passes going astray, and gets caught in possession - much like Kaboul. Seems to think he is better on the ball than he is. He is a long way short of what I would call a top left back. He misplaced more passes than any player in the entire CL last season.
Most spurs fans? Where did you get that from. Poll the people on here, and i reckon it'd be at best 50/50 for BAE being good
"Spurs are a fantastic club and any player would be flattered by their interest, so I am, but there is nothing I can do if Sunderland want to keep me" The alleged words of Gyan. Of course the moronic media will do anything to stir the pot, as seen by their desperate attempts to suggest Modric is a liar and wants to leave Spurs despite repeatedly saying he wants to stay, so I would take this with a pinch of salt, even given their dislike of Spurs and love for Man Utd
I still feel that although Gyan is a Ghana international that we could do better. Even if Crouch and Keane do leave for Sunderland they will do nothing and neither will that boring club. I don't see too many clubs queueing up for Gyan so he really doesn't inspire me.
Well Hopnut, controversy seems to follow you, if BAE's passing and loss of possesion is as you suggest, I cannot understand why he is in the top 4 Spurs players in the table in this link...in with the likes of Mod, VdV and Bale. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...er-shows-theres-Spurs-Bale-Van-der-Vaart.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harry's quote about Danny Rose...does that mean his loan to Pompey is off?
I wouldn't worry about it, Syd. Gyan's a good player, but the suggestion that he'd be offered as part of a deal for Crouch sounds a little ludicrous. I can see both Crouch and Defoe ending up at either the SOL or Sid James', though. Bruce won't want to see another strikerless situation develop, so I'd expect you to sign a few strikers this summer. He won't want to see by far your best one leave.
The important thing that defines BAE's failing for me is his propensity to lose possession, either caught in possession or through passes going astray. He may have completed a high number of passes relative to his team mates but this article makes no reference to how often possession is lost. If this were a percentage pass completion rate then fair enough, but it is not. Completing a million passes is great but if you give the ball away 3 times out of 10 in defence and a goal is conceded 50% of those times, then the million passes are something of an irrelevance... The numbers I quote here are hypothetical obviously.
i dont think leighton baines is a cracking full back defensively....hes just a good attacking full back... evra would look cack in a rubbish team...theres isnt too much diffrent between him and BAE.....nothing to do with the trophies united have won etc Cole is probably outstandingly better
It seems unlikely that Assou-Ekotto is giving away possession repeatedly, if he's completing lots of passes and dribbles, as well as having lots of successful touches, though.
