Interesting snippet re funds for transfers.... Paul Warburton - Fulham Chronicle Rangers back in for Fulham frontman Jun 10 2011 QPR are set to play a trump card by offering £3million Andy Johnson a chance to renew his Premiership career in west London â providing he moves up the road. The Fulham striker has shot up the pecking order on boss Neil Warnockâs list after attempts to sign Danny Graham or Steve Morison bit the dust this week. Chronicle sport has learned Warnock is furious funds to sign the last two arrived only after they went to Swansea and Norwich instead â both promoted behind the Championship winners. But the managerâs frustration will be eased if he lures the former England striker away from Craven Cottage after a fitful last campaign. Johnson made a belated entry following injury â only to be dropped as Bobby Zamora, Mousa Dembele and later Eidur Gudjohnsen battled for striker roles. Former Fulham boss Roy Hodgson at West Brom is a rival for the 30-year-old's signature â but Rangers are aware the forward would prefer to stay in London rather than uproot his family to the midlands. Desperate times indeed. Just this week, I've seen us linked to Robbie Keane, John Carew, Eidur Gudjohnsson, Victor Anichebe and now Andy Johnson. 65 games between them last season and only 6 goals to show for it. Can we really not do better ?
Johnson is a good instictive striker, he's in the same sort of position as Bullard coming back from serious injury, I'd take a gamble on him but we need at least another decent striker as well.
But for Johnson's injuries, he's have been an England squad regular. I'd take a punt on him, as long as his fitness now isn't in doubt.
Young and hungry woud be lovely, northolt, but sadly also very expensive. Look at Henderson -£20m. Bernie's already been mugged for £726m in his divorce settlement so I'm afraid it's back to old and well fed, or experienced and mature?!
wouldn't got above 3m though & i'd think jol would let him go as he likes keane & think he will get him & scupper our chances.
Good player if he can stay fit, but he hasn't been doing that for Fulham, why should he do it for us?
I have a vision of Mackie enthusiastically pushing johnson in a wheelchair on to a through ball and tripping up and both ending in a heap.
A few links with him and with family in West london too?...Anyway,for the right price and if he can stay fit,I would love him.Works hard, good attitude and he is a goalscorer.Would probably need a target man to play alongside him though...
