March to the Champions League...

I think it is pretty much unanimous amongst most football fans that 2pts per game is CL form - with 76 pts the aim for us atm.

To keep track of our progress I have created this table using an idea taken from the Liverpool board, of breaking games up into groups of four.

This makes it easier to asses our form in stages.

I once read that when planning for the League, Sir Alex would look for 100 goals in his team.

So here is a table to show how close we are to that (though I'm not expecting anything like 100 at the moment)

That was exactly my thought when I was filling it in!

March could easily make or break our season.

And the stats also show a PL side that finishes on at least 76 pts will have to
achieve or or both of the following :

1. GD in the 30s
2. Concede less than 40 goals

Doing well on #2. But well off the trail for #1.

 

At least blocks 7, 9 and 10 are easier on paper to make up for block of death

 

I will adjust my sheet after the weekend to include these stats also then.

You guys are looking good atm. (aside from that full back, and the CB you bought who look like they are taking some time to settle)

 

3 of the last 5 away...not nice ones either. Villa at home on the last day isn't too bad though, as I'm fairly confident everything will go to the wire again.

 

Our run in could be a lot harder. Hopefully we'll still have something to play for by then.

Norwich City somehow managed 72 points in 1992/93 with a -4 goal difference!

It and blocks 3-4 are the toughest ones. That's why Sunday is so important: the one fixture out of the four starting with Everton away where we have a good history. We really need a win.
