Oh no! Hope they don't do any kind of award ceremony before the match. Kiss of death.

    Fantastic accolade though.

I was going to go to the Hull game. Can't be arsed now. 2-0 to Hull is a racing certainty .... which will be good as it'll keep us in moans throughout the international break. We'll be able to ponder relegation, the Liebherr family pulling the plug and a host of other (un) likely scenarios. Oh joy unconfined.

Let's just be grateful Webb isn't refereeing. A combination of MOTM and Webb refereeing would create some kind of super jinx! <yikes>

OK now I',m really worried. Can't we have the Sunderland game as the necessary defeat?

I understand David Salas is in line for Interpreter of the Year award. Tough competition though.

Probably. A manager is likely to win the award after a series of unusually good games. Thus, it would be likely for the next few games to be closer to average, i.e. worse. So, yes, it's jinxed, but it's just a feature of randomness called "regresssion to the mean".

In the reverse of that, if a team suffers an unusually poor run of results and the manager is sacked, the return to normal form may be seen as vindication of the decision.

A similar thing happens if you're, say, a golf pervert. You play a few unusually bad rounds and decide a new set of clubs is in order. Hey presto, your game moves back towards its more usual quality and you thank the new clubs.

Fortunately, we all know that this is not a statistical blip and that this form will continue forever. Don't we?

    Vin

No, of course there isn't a curse and only the feeble-minded would believe such a thing. We had all better get a grip, as we are going to get more recognition as our young team improves. I can't imagine a United or Chelsea fan worrying about the negative consequences of winning anything, can you?

They generally aren't quite such drama queens.

We're new at being drama queens, so we're not very good at it yet.

A good month for Argentinians in the Premier League!

Poch becomes the first Argentine to be awarded manager of the month and Aguero becomes only the 3rd Argentine to get the player of the month award. (Tevez in Dec 2009 and Veron in Sep 2001 being the other two).

In America it's called the Sports Illustrated jinx, basically the same idea. Fascinating stuff, if you're a geek.

Indeed. This is just the start.

Gosh, I'm feeling absurdly optimistic about this club at the moment. And I don't think I'm wrong to be, either.
