Hi guys, I live with a few Reds who are fairly confident of a top 4 finish. I must say, i've been impressed with the way you guys play since around Jan but moving to a new formation this season seems to have brought even more rewards. Not being a visitor to your boards I was wondering what the feelings were here. I personally think it will look something like this: Chelsea City Arsenal Pool Utd Spurs (I think our lack of goals will hold us back) Do you think you will get it, and if so at who's expense?
We need it, massive season for us Would love Chelsea to not make it and Utd for obv reasons I dont know, although we've had the results (and I think we'd have all taken this amount of points at the beginning of the season!) we havent been dominating teams like towards end of last season Hopefully we'll click. We need to get back to winning ways this weekend obv We have a very good chance, we need a couple of good signings in Jan And I think you will come good once all of your signings bed in
Think the majority of us think we'll finish 5th, I know I do. I reckon we'll **** up somewhere along the line, we usually do anyway. Think it'll be - City Chelsea Arsenal Spurs Pool Utd
depends where we are at come jan league wise and what and how we spend the money we have. still top 4 in league and can get a couple of signings in jan that other clubs wished they could have got we could get top 4. dont see any better than that sadly, and i am one who thinks we will just miss out and finish either 5th or 6th, depending if we finish above utd lol.
If we keep improving I think we can certainly be there. But I think it is going to be a real slog. Its hard for anyone to make top four these days let alone win it. I wouldnt be surprised if we made it, but then again I wouldnt be surprised if we finished 6thor possibly 7th. I think all we can do is work on improving our points total from last season and see where that leaves us. If we can get better than last season by 5-10 points, we have to be there or there abouts.
There's 2 ways of looking at this season. Firstly we can opt for the 'expert' view of Perm any 1 from City, Chelsea or presently Arsenal for the title then add any 1 from Spurs, Arsenal, United, Liverpool, Everton for the 4th spot. However, we can consider all of the top 7 spaces 'up for grabs'. For me the latter view is the more probable. There is not one truly outstanding team so far this season. City have shown glimpses, Arsenal are presently on a good run but both have shown that they have flaws. Alll of the top 7 sides have experienced major changes over the summer. There's just too many imponderables. So I really do think that it's going to be one exciting roller coaster of a season with no guarantees. As for us, then we aim for the top and see just how far we get. Let's 'enjoy' the trip!
Absolutely. I'm certainly no fan of either City, Arsenal or Chelsea but it is good for the health of the Prem (and it's apeal aborad) to have winners other than utd.
my blog is on record. city to win it chelsea second utd 3rd spurs 4th arsenal 5th lfc 6th only arsenal might change my mind right now.... but they have to get past February for once! if we get it there needs to be a huge chelsea and utd shock.... the way arsenal are going and city too i think spurs have a better chance than many are giving... ergo if we beat anyone i'll have to be chelea and utd.
Personally I don't see the point in guessing the order of the finished table (except for a bit of fun), because it is pure speculation-especially so early in the season. It's reasonable to assume that last years top 7 will be there this year (Southampton could gatecrash it and make it an 8), but the order depends on a number of things. Last season there was a 28 point gap between 1st and 7th place. If say, 10 points could be knocked off that difference then the places would be compressed much more. This would make for a much more exciting league and would mean 2 or 3 points could make the difference between any number of placings. How much more entertaining it would be if in the last few weeks 3 or 4 clubs were still in with a shout of the top spot, and the 3 (or 4) below still had a chance to make the last CL place.
I think we are number 1, sorry I lied, I think we are number 1,2,3,4 and 5!!!! Dollar for anyone who knows who said.
On a purely pragmatic basis, I would say that is not quite right. First few people can see either or both City and Chelsea outside the top 3. Arsenal unless they have a mighty collapse will be in the top 4. So I would say that realistically there is only one place available for Liverpool and Spurs (and United). I personally think United will be in the top 4 (this weekend will give us a good idea).
You might think so and others may agree with you but I believe that your view is very short-sighted. There is no one clear standout team in the first 10 games. We still have the majority of the season left to play. All of the top 7 teams have demonstrated that they have the ability to take points from each other. Everything is still up to play for.
other than the fact that arsenal only actually have 6 point in hand and a long history of imploding...... arsenal can quite easily fall to 5th form here. equally they can win it. Arsenal have more to prove.... city have recent history on thier side to give them a go for top 2 and in my view the title. cheslea i think are doing badly but are second... they need to improve to win it by a long way but can do so in january... need a proper striker as e'tto is a bad move.
I've never said that we will win it. I've said we can and that we should alwys aim to achieve that. However, it seems to me that all of the old 'certainties' are crumbling and that from 1 - 7/8/9 COULD either manage the title or have a very big say in who does.
Spot on Dave, 10 games played, no stand out team and 2 games between 10th and 2nd could be a very close season if things don`t change by January.
I don't get this, judge this judge the season after 10 games thing. After 10 games, you've only played half the teams so no way you can make a judgement on it. Judge it after 19 games and you've got a decent enough idea of what the season is going to look like. Good thing for us is, come the midway point, we then have a lot of our rivals at home in the run up to the end of the season so if we are in and among the top 4 then I'd fancy us to be in with a solid shout of getting there (as long as no major disruptions in Jan). I think see it being Chelsea/City for top 2 in any order followed by Arsenal & United with Us, Spurs & Everton in close proximity.
