O.K. We've had the same question about Elvis Presley. Who did Ozzy Osbourne claim to be the best rock singer of all time ?
No. A couple of clues. He appears in the autograph books of both the Kray twins (having visited them in prison). His first public performance was as an actor playing a Dickensian character.
Not Mick Jagger although he did apply to join the Rolling Stones at one time, strongly supported by Keith Richards who was a great fan of his - I guess Jagger fealt threatened by this and strongly opposed it.
What has Blackpool got in common with Dublin, apart from peerless positions overlooking the Irish Sea?
Dublin means Blackpool...if I am right, sorry off line till tomorrow now. Someone else can take over Beth
Correct Beth. In Gaelic Dublin is,Baile Atha Cliath. The literal translation of that in English is the town by the black pool. The black pool is the river Liffey.
Something like that Finglas; the name 'Dublin' comes from 'Dubh Linn', which translates as Blackpool. 'Baile Atha Cliath' (pronounced Bollock Lee in Donegal Irish) translates as 'town of the hurdle ford'; why not set a question yourself?
OK Grinning. As we're talking about Dublin. Which Dubliner is the only person ever to win both an Oscar and a nobel prize.
I thought it could be Seamus Heaney, so I checked and I was wrong. So I went for one of the few Irish writers I can think of and it was unlikely to have been big butch bonking Oscar, so I then reckoned George Bernard Shaw and he appears to be the one.
Correct 4stringR. The new bridge over the Liffey is called after him. Over to you 4stringR. P.S. Seamus Heaney was a Derry man.
