I represent a community group started by supporters of Hull City AFC called City Till We Die, named after one of our regular songs. No To Hull Tigers is the slogan of our current campaign.

Our current owner Dr Assem Allam wants to change our name from Hull City AFC to Hull Tigers because he thinks City is a “lousy identity”, “irrelevant” and “common”. A number of fan groups have united to oppose the proposed name change.

As part of the campaign we sing “City Till I Die” at 19 minutes 4 seconds into our matches. 19:04 was chosen because Hull City AFC was formed in 1904.

During our match on Saturday it would be appreciated if you would give us a little respect at 19 minutes.

Full details of our campaign can be found at:

    https://www.facebook.com/NoToHullTigers

If you want to support our right to keep our name please leave us a message and/or a like our Facebook page.

    Thank you

Well if I was a Hull fan I would certainly be outraged. However as an onlooker, it is pretty hilarious.

I really hope you don't get renamed Hull Tigers. Really stupid idea.

I saw someone calling him Dr on your board so googled what he had done a PhD in. Turned out he bought it from Hull Uni for (I think) £1.5m.

To be honest pal I think you would be asking a lot.......all boards on here usually only have a small proportion of the actual full fan base probably between 5-10% of our usual crowd. While no doubt your cause is a good one it would be unusual for the crowd to go silent when the opposition starts singing no matter what the cause.
All I can say is good luck with your campaign and don't be offended if we don't join in or keep quiet!

Now I hear we're back to being Super Saints. Something that was a regular feature during the 1980's.

AA was awarded his first degree at Cairo in 1960 and then followed it up with a post graduate diploma in 1968. After moving to Hull in the early 1970s he did a Masters degree in Economics. In 2009, along with substantial donations to the local hospital he gave Hull University 1.5 million pounds to help establish a new department to specialise in biomedical science and in 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University. Your assertion that the University of Hull sells degrees is, to say the least, ill founded and offensive.

He gave Hull University £1.5m and they gave him a degree. Sounds like they sell degrees to me (for a lot more than I would think a PhD from Hull is worth!).

I don't know how I feel about this. On the one thing tradition should be honored but these days its all about marketing. If re-branding helps get a bigger fan base and interest from abroad then its usually a good thing. Sometimes you have to accept that the world is changing and embrace it. Although the red bull football club was many steps too far.

Typical stereotypical comment attempting to degrade Hull. Like we haven't heard those before.

Pretty sure a PhD is worth the same no matter where it's from, bar Oxbridge. It's still a PhD.

Also pretty sure if you invested enough money any Uni would give you a degree...

Don't think the post was meant to degrade hull. You should be able to tell the difference between a real degree and an honorary degree. And don't see why its really relevant. Would disagree about the uni comment, are you saying all universities are equal behind Cambridge? (won't include oxford because its a ****hole).

Suggesting that Hull Uni sell degrees and hinting that a Degree from Hull isn't worth this apparent money he offered (he was given the degree 2 years after giving the money as well, so clearly not buying it) sounds like a cheeky dig to me.

A PhD is still a PhD isn't it though. If you have a PhD on your CV, Companies won't decide based on which Uni you got it from, unless it is for example Cambridge.

To be fair, I don't know why I said Oxford, we all know that the great universities are Cambridge and Hull...

OK, I'll have to think about it then.

Oh I know. They sang... Oh when the Saints go marching in..! :) Nobody else sings that..!

Thinking about it though, everybody else do seem to sing that too. They just change the bloody team name. Our own song as well. :(

    Oh..!

But the United crowd are such easy prey that I thought you were going for something a little tougher. :)

Let's face it, half of them are still making sure they're in the correct stadium.
