Arsenal just signed Carl Jenkinson, not going to get first team football, he will go out on loan. What im saying is i want chambo to stay for this season!!! please chambo COYR im not in a bad mood today but who agree's with me?
You cannot resist for much longer Fran..........give in and enjoy yourself.....to hell with the consequences...........
If Theo had stayed with us, he would have had to retire due to the injuries he would have picked up. I can't remember a single game when the physios didn't have to carry him from the pitch at some point. He was singled out for special treatment by championship "hard men" because he was a creative player. He received next to no protection from referees and from a financial and a footballing perspective he probably is better off where he is. I'd take him back when we get to promised land.
Welcome to the Saints board Keith's nice teeth............Hope you enjoy the site. We look forward to your contribution. Don't forget to tell your friends about the site it does not matter who the support all are catered for on here. Enjoy.......
Errrrr, ummm, not sure we should discuss those things on here Fran.........It is likely to give people the wrong Idea..........Quite like it though..........
As i have said before, i dont mind him going (although I do have some resentment that it is arsenal if that is true) he is a decent player. What I do hate is the fact they will only offer us a litle amount of money and the rest on additions based on first team apperances, england caps etc. Adkins cant spend that on replacing him. I dont think Carroll's £35 million move is based on any of these additions. so why do lower league teams have to settle for them?
If (IF!) there's a deal in the offing, NC won't be taken for a ride and I bet he'll want a sell-on deal as well. We missed out on those for Bale and Theo (should they be sold) because we were desperate, but not anymore.
The reality of it is that you are not likely to get any more than about £5 million cash for the guy either way. All the rest has to be add ons, no choice. They will not be prepared to part with any more than that initially. He will not be of any high cash value until he has proved himself at the highest level. He needs to stay with us until he is at least 21 or 22. Assuming he progresses as we think he will and Saints progress as well. If all goes to NC's plan the lad will have done all he can for Saints and should then be able to expect top Salaries. The kind of money only the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea perhaps, or maybe United or Liverpool and Man city can afford.
No way NC will accept 5 mill up front. It's not what he's worth to Arsenal that matters, it's what he's worth to us.
I still think £5 million price tage for a 17/18 year old is a little steEp ...seen as he has not played 90 mins in a Under 19 England Fixture ....but thats football this day and age! Gone mad!
Of course it's steep. That's the problem..the big clubs are vacuuming up promising players which may not be in that player's long term interest. In the past, most of them would stay with their home club until they matured. Alex is worth more than that to us...what could we get for 5 million nowadays? In League 1 that would have been mega bucks, but we are with the big boys now and have to compete for good players. Why look for a new Alex Chamberlain when we have one now. Unless injury strikes, we will get more for him in the future anyway.
I'm sorry, but I've never bought into the "theo would be even better if he'd stayed with us" comments- agreed an extra season of regular football may have helped him along the way, but in 4 years Arsenal have developed him from a good championship player to one who's scored a hat-trick for England & has played in the knock-out stages of the champions league. Similarly with bale, lack of first team action may have slowed his progression initially, but now he's one of europe's most sought-after players. I don't see how we can possibly claim to have been able to increase their levels beyond this. As for chambers, let's not forget theo & bale were at least proven at championship level- oxo hasn't yet done even that. I'm confident he can make the step up & hope he stays, but even now we can't turn down silly money. I agree we'd be lucky to see any more than £5m or so upfront...
