Hey joesteinberg, how do you drink your pint with your face in a bag, and where does the piece of cake come into it?
Does it really matter what the age is of someone you are having a decent debate with? Or a decent exchange of views? When you get a debate between an older person and a youngster often it is about enthusiasm versus experience. For me good healthy exchange of views which will not work if either of you have a closed mind. We as the oldies have to listen to new idea's from the youngsters. They in turn can benefit from experiences we have gained. It makes for a reasonable forum.
Wise words Beddytare - especially the bit about them benefitting from our experience. What I usually offer is something along the lines of 'don't ever do that, it's bloody stupid/painful/expensive, I did it in 1970/80/90 and the results were horrible' I have quite a list unfortunately
The hardest thing is allowing the youngsters to make their mistakes the same as we did. The experience comes in when you help them deal with what they have done. Somethings you can help to prevent. An awful lot more though is a clear up procedure......... Something we have all gone through I am sure........
I like how we can have this sort of conversation without everything being deleted like on the dreaded old bbc 606. I LOVE NOT 606 !!
Yes, I love this site and hope that all the newbies will rise to the high standard of discourse for which the Saints board is famous. As for the age thing, I cannot help but recall Oscar Wilde's quip that, " youth never hesitates to pass on the benefit of it's inexperience" No offense meant to anyone who still has their own hair and their own teeth!
I'm very glad to hear it........as for preaching........Nah you'll get no preaching from me. You just might get the occasional good old fashioned voice of reason though.
I honestly wouldn't want to be young again, unless I could know what I know now. All that angst. I'm sixty, part retired and having the time of my life. Love the mix on this forum.
Well, it's interesting to note that nearly a third of contributors on this board are just out of nappies. The Pompey board has a more even spread. What is this telling us......
Don't go to festival myself (surprise, surprise), but can hear some of it and get to see the fireworks for free. Love the buzz though with all the youngsters around Newport.
