Just think about what you're actually saying. What you're saying is that NONE of those sides will get the required six or seven points from the next four? Or better? None at all?

It's hypothetical because we are clearly not going to win the next four but we can certainly look at where another twelve points would have put us in four matches' time. <ok>

Well what a way to prove my point thanks PTC! Despite there only being 5 points all the way down to 19th 5 of the teams who qualified for the play offs or better were within one point of the zone at this stage. Only Watford climbed the table and they were just 4 points outside the play off zone at this stage. Yes they went on a colossal run, we've seen it happen, and they had a new manager in Zola which was exactly what I was talking about. Sunderland and other sides have rocketed up the table after a major change, it happens but it only happens when there's a catalyst. What kind of an idiot would post a league table that completely proves everything I said and yet say I'm talking out of my arse <laugh>

No doubt there have been exceptions, but let me just reiterate what I have stated, because I haven't said we have got no chance at this point in time:

To make the play offs, we need to hit promotion form pretty much NOW because IF we let that gap become 10 points or more (which at our current rate is likely to happen by Christmas if not after the next two games against Blackpool and Leicester) WITHOUT A MAJOR CHANGE such as manager or ownership there is more chance of someone on this board winning the lottery jackpot than making the play offs. <ok>

So your saying i'm right then THIS season we are not producing relegation form as our average is better than the teams below us, as you rightly say i'm not a mathmatician but i believe i'm right in saying that 54 points would have seen a team safe in four of the last five seasons, so i make it 80% of the time 54 points are more than enough to stay up.

To be fair its been quite a while since you have had a good debate ....maybe you should try and think a bit before you spout out some Patronising drivel....

Just for you Hampy, going by your suggestion that we win our next four & going by the 8 teams above us do exactly the same as their last four games, by my calculations that would put us 5th….!

    Team - Last four games points total - points total after same results from next four games;

    Brighton - 5pts - new total 23pts
    Derby - 7pts - new total 23pts
    Wigan - 5pts - new total 24pts
    Blackburn - 4pts - new total 24pts
    Leeds - 6pts - new total 26pts
    Watford - 4pts - new total 26pts
    Forest - 4 pts - new total 27 pts
    Reading - 4pts - new total 27pts

    Town would be on 29pts

And as I suggested not one of these teams has produced more than 2 wins in their last four..!
Only two teams in the whole division have won more than two games in the last four & that is the top two.

Awaiting your negative response to the facts………based on a purely hypothetical situation of course….<ok>

Bloody hell man. I said last season and we all know it was an exceptional season as I have stated on this board several times when comparing our form with last season. We don't know how many points it will take to stay up and I very much doubt our form will get us relegated this season. Frankly it is a complete waste of time trying to debate anything when you get picked for pieces for a factual statement.

And if that's the case why is this thread littered with the phrase 'I agree with Hampy'

Fair enough, it will obviously be tight, we'll see what happens. <ok>

It does slightly detract from the illustration I was making but I won't let that get in the way of a good wager <ok>

Look guys, it's very simple. At this stage would anyone actually be willing to put money on us making the play offs this season? If so I'd be interested to see the betting slips <ok>

I don't actually think we will make the playoffs this season.

During the summer I think most if not all on here were realistic in their expectations for this season, that being around a top 10 finish, that is still my view, one probably still shared by most if we are honest with ourselves and each other, therefore that will still be progress.

As for the playoff speculation that is always going to be mentioned when we are in and around the middle to top half of the table espescially as we are clearly now a side that is a lot harder to beat.

Marriot should be on the bench ahead of Nouble, that's as long an answer as the O/T needed.......Post 72...!

Thought you might be interested in this Hoppers, if you take the haul from the prior period - between 6 to 10 games - then with four wins you're looking at Town in either 7th or 8th:

    Derby - 2pts - new total 18pts
    Wigan - 3pts - new total 22pts
    Brighton - 5pts - new total 23pts
    Leeds - 3pts - new total 23pts
    Blackburn - 7pts - new total 27pts
    Forest - 6 pts - new total 29pts
    Watford - 9pts - new total 31pts
    Reading - 10pts - new total 33pts

How's it moving the goalposts? You chose an arbitrary period that landed us inside the top six, I chose an arbitrary period that landed us outside (although I didn't have to do a lot of digging). The period I was talking about remains the next four <ok>

If you're going to pull me up on something and throw insults around as at least three have done so far (not the latter with you hoppers), you at least need to be able to back it up convincingly <ok>

But whatever way you look at it Hampy we are in or just outside the playoffs on GD, something we have not been any place close to after the first month or two of the season in past years.!

A top half finish is what I am hoping for, as well as seeing some game time for young Jack.

Apart from 2011-12 when we had 20 points after 14 games and the season before that when we had 21 points after 14, unless you are talking about if we win all of the next 4? But yeah hear what you're saying <laugh>.

Yeah and 10 games later in both these seasons we had gone from comfortably top half of the table to relegation dog fight...!
