Neither was ours ......... the fact remains that you had a dozen of the squad from the Stoke match.

If they weren't good enough they wouldn't be in the squad. I have to say if Boruc sustains an injury you could have problems.

What does it matter if they're in the squad but not on the pitch? How many times do you win a game because you've got better players sat watching? Our squad is pretty thin (compared to the standard of our first team) so it makes sense that our team full of backups isn't very good. The likes of Tadanari Lee and Danny Fox aren't exactly Premier League standard. And yeah, I think we're all aware that if our extremely good keeper goes down, then our pensioner backup isn't going to be up to the same standard.

I don't think the number of foul committed reflects the intentions of the club. Its widely accepted that the league is our priority.

Those players are unlikely to feature in any PL matches bar injuries (subs excepted). We both made many changes and you got the result, don't see much to argue about. Most of the fans here would have put out a stronger side and hoped to progress to the next round. But we don't run the club and chairman/manager decided to play youth/2nd team players. I see no shame in losing to Sunderland with that XI, whether we should have played a different team is a matter for discussion.

From a quick tally, PL Minutes this season from Sunderland team: 5328/9900, Southampton team: 1432/9900, and that's even with you having 3 enforced changes. You could easily name that side to start a PL game, we fielded 7 players who haven't even started a single PL game yet.

I think we may have used a few more first teamers if it had been at St Marys...it was probably dragging them half way up the country mid-week that put the kibosh on it. FA cup games on Saturdays will be treated differently I'm sure.

    smuginantibes you're boring....go away

OT: Tbf expected that result Sunderland had a regular first 11 compared to ours, shame no one stood out as it would be nice to have a few players putting pressure on the starting 11.

I am ill. Just woke up after a nap to see I missed the game. I bet no one guessed we were going to play that weak a team? Shows our priorities are not the cup. See we somehow still had the edge on possession? Was Lee crap?

Dont think we should be too disappointed. Shows how much the team has progressed since last season. Some squad players got a good run out and vluable experience for some more of our emerging talent. Line drawn move on!

Your first team beat our reserves, in a game our manager obviously thought of as a practise match. None of us fans cared about the result which is why only 300 travelled. Trying to wind people up about a game no one cares about will not work.

Chill out, accept it, move on. The sunderland board will be a much more worthwhile place for you to spend your time.

    I don't want anything.

I particularly don't want a mouthy little tosser coming onto the Sunderland board and spoiling the match thread.

Until then we'd been polite with the Saints who'd come on, including one who'd started a thread.

I'm not surprised I've pissed you off, that was the point, although I am surprised a few of you chose to defend him. If you hadn't I'd have been gone in seconds.

We've just had the same ****e from Hull supporters over the last week and enough's enough ......... just wait until they start with their relentless hair splitting and humourless sniping, you'll think I'm a saint <laugh>

You'll see the phrase 'you can't tell us to go away, this isn't a Southampton board, it's for anyone' so many times you'll think there's a fault in the website's system.

I apologise to the decent Saints but your little pal is an annoying wum and a coward. He was caught out but didn't have the bollocks to own up and started squirming to us and, even worse, to you.

    "But I haven't even said anything." <wah>
