you may be right i am not 100% sure, skinny for a winger isnt too much of an issue though i wouldnt have thought, Maca wasn't that big either and looked like he would fall over if you farted near him, but he was skill full and quick, so skinny was probably a good thing. i thought it was because he wanted to be the highest paid a teenager had been at the time, and we didn't think he was worth it.
Jenners is right on this one. He wanted too much money and we had a certain wage structure. I'm guessing it meant youngsters were only able to be paid X amount of money and he was asking for more than that. The worst thing was they offered Ronaldo for £4m to us and then you paid £12m a week later for him.
The list is just a shortlist and you can select whoever. Diego Costa is a great shout and is right up there at the moment along with Villa, they are the number one combo in the world right now with goals between strike partners. I would go with Aguero as well, his movement, intelligence, eye for when to finish and when to smash a ball, combination, He would be unbelievable with a guy like Suarez next to him I feel. Only threw Studge in there due to his goals this year but of course he is behind all of these in reality.
I didn't think it was his decision. I thought Rafa was desperate to sign him. Either way I'm not so sure it would have been crazy (and I know hindsight etc).I watched him a couple of times (probably his second season at Atletico) and one name sprang to mind....Robbie Robbie Robbie. Kun was class even at that age. Youngest player to debut in Argentina since a certain Diego M.
so.... for me it would be Lewandowski as i'd want messi and ronaldo behind him in my front 3. mind you it'd take six months in a siberian gulag under the tender cares of a couple of death camp gaurd to beat the egos out of that pair to play behind anyone....
They might well be I don't know. Phil Thompson scouted Ronaldo at Sporting and he was offered to Liverpool for £4m but he [Ronaldo] wanted £1m tax free for himself. According to Thompson "We had just signed Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Anthony Le Tallec, both on far less than Ronaldo's aspirations. And we would have had anarchy if the other players had found out how much we were considering paying for an 18-year-old kid."
Fast forward about 14 years - Aguero Jnr. .... Kun Aguero for a Dad and Maradona his grandfather. What a prospect!
@Billy, it was before he was at Atletico, it was when he was in Argentina. Rafa talked about it when we played them in the CL. Even now if we spent 15-20m on a player from a South American league with no international experience it'd be a huge risk, back then he would've been our record transfer.
