As this is now officially a wum thread I thought I'd trot one one of my stories from the last 40 years of following Sunderland. It'll be a ramble, as I've already started drinking prior to the Southampton match ......... this could be a 'guess the year' post as I haven't a ****ing clue tbh So, we went to the cup match against Spurs at Roker Park, in the 80's, and luckily drew as they were much better than us to be truthful. We decided to go to the replay and were surprised to see the Sunderland end rammed and absolutely buzzing, what a great night it turned out to be. Lads were coming in with a few bruises and tales of bother on the Seven Sisters, Spurs were chucking pool balls at us from the seats above and the atmosphere was incredible. My memories of the match? Chisholm scoring, Turner saving a penalty, the Alamo and VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After the match the Sunderland people came out to find Spurs waiting and the coppers, who were keeping the two sides apart, just ****ed off and left everyone to it. The Sunderland lads did OK and eventually got together to find the coaches and trains ...... we'd driven down from Mansfield so had to find the car which was near the tube station. As the 4 of us walked along we were terrified of being sussed, as everyone else was Spurs, and we kept our heads down. One of the lads, Steve from Nottingham, whispered, "We've been spotted, them lads are about to jump us." By this time I was totally pissed off at being unable to celebrate a great Sunderland victory so charged across the road, totally flattened the biggest lad in the gang and roared at the rest who ran. As I looked back across the street I saw Steve shouting, "No not them you daft bastard ........ THEM!" I have a million of these stories and I'm here all week
