Having Boruc between the sticks give the defence licence to maraud and the strong defence certainly help Artur's stats. However, despite the strong defence, Boruc still has opportunity to demonstrate his stopping ability. Wish he was English.

Kelvin (on Sky this morning) said that the Stoke goal was on the TV at training on Monday...he said he had to rewind it several times...naughty boy!

    Nice one, -DTLW.

One thing I also noticed shortly after the Begovic goal was that Artur blessed himself again. It obviously gives him comfort and that's fair enough.

Want some criticism..? You unfortunately fell into the journalese by writing phrases like... the former Celtic... Thankfully, I didn't see his age anywhere. I'd love to read a journalistic article that isn't written in the newspaper style. Difficult, but it might also might give you a distinctive voice.
Also, it's just as well to remind you that whole things are not an amount. They are a number. He shifted a fair amount of cement, is fine, but a fair amount of eyes turned to Southampton's Polish stopper.., isn't. Eyes are whole things and never fractions of, so a fair number of eyes turned to Artur. As they always should. He's most entertaining. :)

Sorry to make so much of that. Nice read.

I think that has already been reached. He's a bit of an odd-ball. Great odd-balls are fast tracked to legendary status.

You'll find peoples' ages given in almost all newspaper articles for a simple reason. Most people (obviously not all) want to know the basic facts about the people they are reading about, and all editors recognise this. No journalist would ever think of submitting copy that didn't give the subject's age, because if they did they'd get a rollicking from their editor..

Indeed, and if this was an ordinary newspaper article about ordinary people I would expect that. But this is different. This is sports writing, and the journo is talking to informed and interested people, in the main. I would have been surprised had -DTLW put Boruc's age in, hence my thanks that I didn't see it. Besides, it was a line to illustrate the point I was making, not a commandment. :)

Age is very important when talking about players. If Saints were pursuing a player we had never heard of, it would be important if he was 18 or 28.

He's probably the best keeper we've had for quite a while, but Saints legend? He's barely played 30 games for us!

We're not going to forget him in a hurry though, are we?

He has all the qualities required of a legend - the mad bulging eyes would swing it for him if the goalkeeping ability wasn't enough. Hopefully he'll be around long enough to cement his status. And I wouldn't put it past him to score one himself at some point.

I agree with PTF. I'd not say legend, I'd say he is a cult hero. Different things entirely.

Remarkably, Saints legend Michael Svensson only played 67 league games [oops, 71]. Granted that's more than double the amount, but Boruc will eat into that number very quickly. And MS was a straight up and down player. Boruc is definitely odd.

But I won't argue the point though. Cult hero..? Legend..? As long as they play well it's all, the same to me.

At least -DTLW is getting his feedback..!

It depends on the substance of the article.......age is only relevant if it adds substance. Often in sports articles age is added to emphasise or to highlight or simply to inform. To get on in this particular area DTLW is doing ok and is learning quite fast. Needs to develop his own style a bit more but he is doing ok.....<ok>

Nice article and some interesting facts and analysis

    Some points :)

Your opening gambit is missing a but
I feel you could have used fewer words. If you're struggling to come up with different ways to say fans or Southampton (e.g. supporters, faithful, scummers, South coast club, saints, Hampshires number 1) then you probably don't need to write it anymore.

I think it is very well written Connor. There's some small points to do with sentence structure and grammar, which have all been mentioned already, but in general it reads well and provides a bit more info than most would usually know. Good job.

Thanks all. Will take if on board, often find myself reiterating things, albeit slightly differently. As TSS and others have said, the Polish keeper, the former Celtic man, the saints stopper etc.

A habit to rid myself of perhaps!
