Gangster Squad. Wants badly to be LA Confidential but ends up being more like Bugsy Malone. Alex Cross: A throwback, this is a well made B Movie. Decent but just not outstanding enough to be memorable.
Now You See Me - Bit cheesmo but its a fairly original idea so its worth a once over. RED2 - As expected - more cheese. Better than the first though and Anthony Hopkins has his moments.
Pacific Rim: Put away your brain for 2 hours and just enjoy the spectacle. If you remember Gigantor, or if you know anything about RoboTech or the Iron Giant then you like me, will probably love this film. It's cheesy in places and it does not have a fantastic script but it's exciting, highly entertaining movie making. Giant Monsters fighting Giant Human-Operated Robots. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro of Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth fame, if you like them you will probably also like this. Highly recommended Cracking end scene btw
Riddick: I liked the Chronicles of Riddick (sue me) Although Vin Deisel plays the same character in every movie he makes, I actually enjoyed this one. Lots of aliens, big guns and space mercenaries. Pretty good. Plus it has Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica.
Been re-watching some classic Hitchcock recently - The Man Who Knew Too Much, The 39 Steps (1935) and Rear Window. Gonna watch Vertigo this weekend.
2 Guns: Excellent. Reminiscent of Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout. A throwback/homage to the 80s 90s buddy action flicks, well worth a watch. Witty dialogue and good performances all round - even from Mark Whalberg. Denzell Washington is good as always and Bill Paxton in particular is superb as one of the bad guys.
Man of Steel: Bit slow to start with but the battles are excellent. Costume design is iffy but Henry Cavill looks the part even if half the cast don't. Russell Crowe is miscast but Michael Shannon (General Zod) is excellent as always.
bit of a Trekkie fan but just having watch 'Star Trek Into Darkness' thought it was a improvement to the Star Trek (2009) version
Zero Dark is excellent. Not seen the others but i've heard that "After Earth" is a thinly veiled Scientology advert, i'm going to give it a miss on that basis.
Zero Dark Thirty is ****. One of the most over rated, ****test films I have ever had the displeasure of watching. If it wasn't a typical "AMERICA **** YEAH" film it would've swept the boards at the razzies and not received any oscar nominations.
