Is there something we don't know about Becchio? Why has he been given no chance by a manager who paid about 3m for him? Why did we then buy another player for 5m for the same position (who seems no better) when that money could have been spent on a creative midfielder? What's the point of spending money on a player and then not giving him any real chance to prove himself? There must be some backstory, surely? Not even CH could be that stubborn and inflexible once he's formed an opinion of a player? Could he?

I think £3m is an overestimate. I thought it was pretty much a swap deal with Morison, with perhaps a minimal payment too. Hughton didn't like/rate Morison so the chance to bring in an in-form striker who was scoring plenty, for a small outlay, looks like a good idea on paper. Whether Becchio wasn't fit enough, or just wasn't the player Hughton wanted I don't know. Equally, someone has to be bottom of the pecking order, and on paper that's always going to be Becchio in our squad. He's the only one without European experience for a start.

I really don't think we can judge Hooper yet, he's only been fit/playing our standard teams against Watford and Cardiff, and he acquitted himself reasonably well in both.

Strange deal that. What a way to ruin a professional's career.

i don't think there is any great mystery regards becchio.

he was brought in on the final day of the january window because we missed out on hooper and rvw was still waiting in the pipeline for the following season. he was also a convenient makeweight for allowing morison to leave (so whatever you valued morison at, i'd have said around £1.5m, is becchio's worth +£200k). on the face of it, similar ability but becchio was on form - morison was not. at best he was seen as a short term fix, at worst, short term back up.

however, there were problems with becchio. he came to norwich unfit and by a few accounts, simply wasn't the player the management staff thought he was. that's fine - he was a mistake, no biggie. at least we had back up for if anything happened to holt. i felt he would possibly move back to the championship in the summer, but the injury to hooper meant he was needed, once again as back up. then rvw got injured too - he has been carrying a toe injury since the spurs game and isn't fully fit. i presume he will go on loan in the near future or more likely be sold but i do know he hasn't impressed at colney and isn't viewed as good enough for the premier league unfortunately.

I take it, then, that he has an attitude problem. He certainly hasn't had a chance to show what he can / can't do playing premier league football.

i don't think he has an attitude problem. i suppose he might, but i understand he just isn't up to the standard and he has never been fit enough. i see it more a case of a cheap gamble which hasn't quite worked out for either the player nor the club. sometimes signings just don't work out and maybe this is one of those. i certainly can't see why some people assume there must be some kind of falling out or conspiracy as to why he never plays. he just isn't good enough

If Becchio has a problem, who can blame him?

The guy has never been given a chance at
    premier level.
Holt and Lambert were both written off,
but proved they could compete and score.

IMO Becchio should be given a chance.
FFS he can't be any worse.

but sometimes its obvious that a player isn't up to it. why would you play him instead of two strikers who look more likely to make the grade? we should play our best side available, especially if we are struggling

agree with this. he is sitting on the bench in recent weeks and not even getting on - he's thinking what is the point in being here. give him a chance

To be fair to Becchio though in the few short appearances he has made I don't think he's looked out of place and has actually shown some nice touches at times, particularly in the games at the tail-end of the season where I seem to remember him picking up an assist or two. Thought he would have played in the cup game to be honest, just to at least see how he looks in a proper game rather than on the training ground.

How true - and mystifying that he hasn't. If young unproven Josh Murphy can get a run out in the league cup, why not Becchio, who showed last year before joining us that he at least knew where the goalposts were - 16 for Leeds before the exchange deal I believe. I know it was in a lower division, but the goals are the same size, ffs!

well i don't disagree with that - i thought he did ok, but if the management don't rate him, why should they play him? if he doesn't impress in training, why should they play him? the fact he isn't even getting into the development side says a lot about his ability, with carlton morris and (before being loaned) jamar loza often being preferred

His link-play with Howson for the 4th goal against the Baggies was exquisite - I doubt if he'll ever get a chance and he'll be off to the Championship in January.

If Becchio goes what will be the point?, bring in another player to sit out every game?, or will CH bring in someone he actually plans on using?, I can understand the concept of backup players but I don't see why he's never been brought on. What harm would it have done when we were being thrashed anyway.
