I'd take a hit from a ball before a knee in the head any day Didn't Lukaku get ice on his knee as well, says it all
I'm surprised the refs aren't able to enforce the coaches to sub the player off. Head injuries, as we all know are the most dangerous. Currently in the NFL they're implementing lots of rules in regulations on head injuries to protect the long term health of the players. Fairly recently Junior Seau, an ex NFL player committed suicide. They apparently believe a lot of his depression problems were a result of multiple untreated concussion that caused permanent brain damage. Footballers don't often take knocks on the head they do in American Football, but it's just an example of head injuries in sports. About 2 years ago I saw Man City play the LA Galaxy in Los Angeles. About 15-20 minutes in the game Gael Clichy was knocked out cold. He was out of a good minute, and he wasn't subbed off until half time. I was baffled, because not only was the game a friendly, so you'd think Mancini would have subbed him off immediately as a precaution, but even if it was a competitive game you'd expect the manager to protect his players.
I'm glad FIFA feel the need to get involved. just hope they remember all this when the WC takes place in Qatar, as heatstroke is a major cause of concussion. http://www.patient-safety-blog.com/tag/heat-stroke/
To get concussion you don't need to have a direct blow to the head. The helmet does protect the skull but the brain can still be damaged from the impacts. In such circumstances the brain is damaged by the skull its self rather than the impact to the helmet
Some absolute tripe being spouted about this. Lukaku was knocked out cold as he scored the winner at West ham earlier this season - he came round & asked who scored ffs. But he was treated & was deemed to be fine to continue & finished the game. After the game was anything said in the media about it? Not a ****ing word. Lloris takes a clout & all of sudden AVB is the devil incarnate. Absolute bollocks, the player stated he wanted to continue, AVB let him get on with it. There's no protocol around this issue at present, if the FA choose to write one in the wake of this, then so be it, but to demonise AVB here is ridiculous.
That's as maybe & he's still a very young manager, so he might learn something from this. But some of the stuff I've read about it is laughable in it's hypocrisy & is just a piss poor excuse to take a pop at Spurs imo. Incidentally, for those who questioned the booking given to Lukaku. Anyone with half a brain could see that the collision was totally accidental. The booking was merely another in a long line, of totally inept decisions, taken by the ALWAYS hapless & completely unfit to referee in the EPL - Kevin Friend. A man who referee's like he's never watched or played the game in his life.
That twat has done his best to ruin many an afternoon for me mate. I've never seen the fella have a good game. I say the same thing every time I see him (irrespective of who he's refereeing) as he simply doesn't understand the game imo.
I've not had a pop at Spurs or AVB. However, I do believe that any player who suffers a head injury (irrespective of loss of conciousness or not) must be removed from the pitch checked by a doctor and not allowed to return until he satisfies the medical criteria. In the vast majority of other contact sports such medical checks are compulsory. I agree with you regarding Lukaku. There was no intent whatsoever.
