It seems we have exactly same number of points as last year after 13 games.Wolves [relegated]were 8th with 21 points
Posting in the queue for the Dartford Crossing. Plus points. The win, obviously. A real gritty 'proper Charlton' performance. Stephens MOM. we still lack creativity and a better side would have beaten us today. Birmingham are the worst side we have played this season, if there are three worse teams than Brum I would be amazed. We urgently need a couple of loans. The players came over at the end and it felt like proper Charlton again.
All true, but I think Birmingham are normally a bit better than that. Not a lot better. Maybe about our standard (and that of everybody else from Ipswich down to Barnsley). Lee Clark may have his limitations as a manager but normally his teams will battle until the final whistle. None of that today, apart from a last few minutes of despairing effort. We were lucky to catch them today after a gruelling midweek match (extra time, then losing on penalties). It was like that battery advert with the bunnies. They were flat and their crowd was flat because it was a complete anti-climax after an exciting local derby. We kept running until the final whistle.
Take nothing away. Wasn't there bit it sounds impressive. 5 games unbeaten, 4 clean sheets. Even a change of formation and personnel didn't hinder us. Powell out!!!!!
That record is really not good enough, 5 games unbeaten, 4 clean sheets what is Powell doing? Get that joker out he is a clown. I agree with you Vol we are lacking flair but flair costs money. Powell has gone back to the Curbs Manual, making us hard to beat. It is not pretty but it is effective. We are down to the bare bones in the Centre half and Striking positions. If Wood and Kermy are going to be out for a while we need a couple of short term loans. We can't go with Lennon on the bench, if either Dervite and/ or Morrison get injured we are in the smelly stuff.
Agreed dick Loved it yesterday....it was back to what we did well in the second half of last season. My worry is that our squad is getting weaker by the week with injuries. If Morro or Dervite gets injured we are in big trouble, ditto Church up front. I would be interested to hear from those who were there yesterday what they made of Pritchard's performance . Be honest, that first half was the poorest he has ever played for us. First touch of an elephant. He improved slightly second half. I would bring Gower or Harriot ( someone told me yesterday that he is unsettled) back for Leeds.
Drove five hours straight from Silloth, Cumbria, to make the game. Very impressed overall, but Pritchard and Stewart were the weak links in the side, despite the latter sort of setting up our winner. Pritchard had an absolute shocker with regards to his positioning, but his effort cannot be questioned. Our support was excellent and it really gave the lads the boost to see us over the line. Church in particular was awesome, and he is fast becoming a crowd favourite with his tireless work-rate and ability to hold the ball up. Morrison, Jackson, Stephens and Wilson also stood out for me. It was great to see CP so happy at the end, and he really gave us the applause we deserved. Credit to the man for organising our defence so brilliantly. Love St Andrews as an away venue - being able to have a smoke at half-time is an added bonus! Brum were poor, but we stifled what threat they did carry. Their support was totally drowned out by our continual singing. COYR! Vol - Did you come back from half-time to find a brawny fellow sitting in your seat? If so, that was me. The Brum bookie in the away-end was offering a return of £8,500 (for a tenner stake) on Cort scoring first in a 4-2 Charlton win.
Not me Ponders. Credit where its due to CP. He has showed signs of turning it around in recent weeks. Fair play to him. The next step is to start playing a bit of football in the oppo's half. I still think we are going to struggle this season without another striker and a creative midfielder to play alongside Stephens and Cousins. That's down to the Board, so how about it boys ?
Agree, although Jackson's return will help us in the creative department. I don't think it'll solve the problem as I'm not at all convinced that he can stay injury-free, but it's definitely given the team a boost to have him back. A midfield 3 of Cousins, Stephens and Jackson is more than a match for most in this division IMO. Not the best by a long chalk, but good enough to both stop opposition midfields playing and to cause problems for their defence.
Is it my imagination or has Jackson lost a pound or two? If he has it may help him maintain his fitness.
I found a pound coin in the players car parking area on Saturday Billy do you think it could be Skipper's?
Agreed on present form, but there are question marks over all of them. --- How long can we expect a 19-year-old to hold down arguably the most critical position in the team? CP has repeatedly stated that he only wants to play the youngsters for brief runs in the first team, and that he has done with Harriott and Pigott (though I would say in both those cases he reacted rather than "proacted") --- Jackson: fitness --- How long will Stephens remain "born again"? Will a slight injury or one bad or unlucky game give him the sulks again? And even now our biggest problem is with the fourth member of the midfield. None of Stewart, Harriott, Pritchard (as a wide man), Green or Gower have been totally convincing, and for whatever reasons CP seems reluctant to give Evina a sustained trial there. That problem will be solved when Solly returns and Wilson moves back to his best position at RM, but when will that happen?
Hughesy can cover for Cousins when CP rests him.I'd like to see Poyet brought into the reckoning soon as well. He could be a ready-made replacement for Stephens when he leaves. He and Cousins know each others' game already as well.
