We needs a solid defence first and foremost, we'll always create imo with Suarez, Ford and Sturridge in the side
this is agree with wholeheartedly. Two things. no errors at the back and ensure at least parity of possession and we would not have drawn to Newcastle nor lost to arsenal IMO.
A back three invites pressure because you are not expecting the same level of protection from the midfield and, if the opposition push their wingers forward, you lack an out ball other thanstraight and long which plays into the opposition's CBs hands.
Personally, I wanna go back to back 4, and stick an extra man in midfield. Regain control in front of our defence and reduce the exposure. And play with proper attackers on the wing - don't rely on full backs to provide width. Let our full backs defend first and foremost. Put Moses out on the wing and it provides us with another option . Front 3 of Suarez - Sturridge - Moses Coutinho behind Henderson and Allen holding (against Fulham)
Yes. Against Fulham, I think it's worth trying. Both are mobile, ability to press, always on the move, looking for space. Gerrard picked up a slight knock and he needs a rest. He cannot be playing every game. All in all, our central midfield is sh*t and have been saying this for the past 3 years. Cannot wait until January where we should pick up some top quality. Rodgers abandoned his beliefs and style of play to accommodate certain members into this team.
Well, I agree about Gerrard and I think Lucas needs a boot up the backside which dropping him might do. Maybe you're right, I just think changing both components at the same time is risky. PS...I was taking the piss highlighting Allen
I got absolutely slaughtered for daring to suggest we were mad to play gerrard so much last year. he ended up injured and lacking form. we need to get him rested like v west brom but we really didn't do it. For me the team picks itself as a 4-3-3 lucas looked great v west brom as they failed utterly to close down his role and he had all the time in the world to pass it it.
Not sure if it was you who originally suggested it but......... What would you think of Agger in that holding role/stopper role? Could be interesting and just a thought.
Personally, I rather Agger back in defence. Skrtel has played well individually but I get the impression that there is a lack of cohesion and relationship between our defenders when he's there. He doesn't deserve dropping though ... Going back to Agger as DM - not sure he has the mobility to play in such a role.
That was normally the case last time but it could be worth trying. Rafa did the same with Aurelio and let's be honest, at that point he was not very mobile either. Would like to see Agger and Sakho tbh.
I would prefer Sakho and Toure - there is a relationship between the two (both speak French), both are strong players and can play on the deck... Toure has to be in the team for his experience and enthusiasm alone.
If we were to go back to a back four then two of our four main CB's would have to miss out. Considering Agger has been the one to miss out lately, what makes people think he would be recalled for the four where only two CB spots are available appose to the three we've been seeing?
so? every week a keeper has to mis out and one of two fullbacks o neach wing. who cares if two cbs have to sit out? I don't think necessarally agger should be recalled but he didn't put a foot really wrong befere his injury par se... neither did toure and he was brought back in at rb then rcb. it seems to me that just cos one player hasn't really made a mistake but doesn't suit the system he is being accomodated while another who hasn't done much wrong is sitting on the bench... equally sahkos made two errors in the past two games and is sitting pretty. none of them deserve an automatic place but surely its best to pick to the philosophy we want which says toures and agger or toure and sahko and be done with it. for me skertls got to lump it. sorry but in case anyones not noticed we haven't set the world alight yet with him have we? Lets more on and gt back to the basics and the basics were meant to be pressing, passing and possession. we cannot press with 5 at the back, we cannot pass it with the players we have on the pitch and worst of all we are getting outplayed by average sides let alone arsenal... newcastle gave us what for as well.
I wasn't saying it was a bad problem I want to see us revert to a back four and so long as Skrtel is not part of it and Toure is (in other words, Toure plus one of Sakho or Agger) then I don't care. Someone has to miss out! I don't go along with this 'Agger in DM' spot unless he is truly our best option there, which he isn't! People said about pushing Johnson forward to RM after seeing Bale do so well at Spurs, now its Agger having seen Luiz at Chelsea. I agree that the eleven almost picks itself in a 433 (or 4231), the only question mark for me is the LCB role with Sakho or Agger.
I don't really see agger as a dm either. don't know why it would be suggested. he'd last a wet week and be injured. I wish rodgers would see the writing o nthe wall though. skertl is not one for injury so if he's bottling the big drop we are in for a big disappointment.
Maybe, wouldn't know until you try it though MITO. Not saying it is the best, just a thought to throw out for dicussion. I still would prefer to see us go for a Gonalons, Banega than move Agger there but it has shown it can work with other CB's before. Does need to make a firm stance on if we are going 3-5-2 or reverting back. Not bad to have two formations but you can see how comfortable we were with the 4-3-3 and Moses added a bit of directness ont he wings which I liked.
As I've said a few times, I see at least one but possibly both Agger and Skrtel leaving in the summer. I'm also starting to doubt that Lucas can refind the form he had before injury, although I ealise it may be suffering from sleepless nights considering the new born too.
Agree that either Agger or Skrtel will leave (if not both). In the right system, Lucas is a good player to have and I would at least like him as a squad player. But our midfield is in desperate need of a battler and box to box mid. I'm praying that we get M'Vila in January ...
for the record.... i am generally not in favour at all about centre halves playing a midfield role. even holding. lets face it the likes of desailly may have done it and a few others in the dim past but recently the likes of phil jones and the like are at it. in short a midfielder for me has a mindset and experience in where to go how to pass it and so forth and these kind of guys are just too immobile and not technically good enough to play it. I'd rather a proper midfielder in there doing it which is why i said henderson is they guy earlier.... its a midfield 3 so if gerrard is being carried when we don't have the ball for many a reason then i think lucas is being over worked. 5-3-2 when defending v 4-5-1 is a hiding to nothing in midfield. 4-5-1 when defending and 4-3-3 when attacking is fine with me if we are not playing it long.
