If you're trained medical staff and an employer puts pressure on you to change your diagnosis and/or treatment they are subject to criminal prosecution. The medical staff AND the employer.
Since when wasn't it the medical personnel's judgement which counted? In every working profession and (I think) every other sport, or at least the majority of professional ones, the doctor or trained physician has the final say on everything. I wasn't aware football was any different?
I was concussed playing rugby and played on for the last 10 mins of the game, (my choice ) then went in the showers and asked my hooker what time the kick off was! Clearly the medics should have the final say regardless of what the player says.
The medical staff should have insisted. Their opinions overrule AVB and even the police. Anywhere you look up possible concussion it will tell you to get checked out and nowhere will you read that you should continue playing a contact sport AVB is using Lloris will to continue as some justification for what was a selfish and thoughtless decision on his part. He is using that to try exonerate himself. The impact was obvious, the player's decision making was impaired, which was also obvious and AVB overruled the medical staff with the training to make better decisions than the player and the manager, did he not trust the medical staff or did he just want to win too much?
there are two things here i didn't get. 1. lukaku was book for it. now i am sorry but i get the feeling the ref bottled it and felt it was accidental but that he had to do something so he chose the least option. If he felt in any way that was deliberate it was SO dnagerousa thing to do he should have sent the player off. Either the ref bottled it in front of the everton fans OR he book the player for nothing just in case. If he was not sure then surely you leave it to the video panel to desiced. 2. Loir should have been hauled off by his manager. I think AVB showed why the players at cheslea got on top of him. he bottled that. the board should have been up and friedal on there. no shame, if hugo loris can't take it then he should be put in his place by his manager. Players who can't rememebr are clearly concussed. you take the deicison for them. I have lost count the number of times i see rugby players so the self same then and have their channel targeted and get blown past. Matt dawson is one example that comes to mind in club rugby. peopel don't know they are fine or not as they are not thinking clearly. When you've a decent keeepr o nthe bench who played midweek too boot? easy decision here.
Ditto Anyone knocked unconscious is concussed. What is disturbing is AVBs motives for ignoring his medical staff, it seemed the game was his primary concern.
Avb must be a ruthless man if he is going to risk his players health over three points. I can see now why he was ran out of Chelsea, hes a horrible little twat and his football is boring.
thats unfair. I think he was sacked at cheslea as the players simply took over. fat frank and the cocksure captain were running things and the guy was sacked. di matteo was given the job to caretaker but RA is a weird character. how he made billions in oil in russia being so.... wishy washy is beyond me. he never wanted di matteo but gave him the job after the same chavski players decided finally to try a leg to suit themselves and gave di matteo as much a run around. Bascially AVB is bossed by players. thats the issue. you need someone who'll stick it to these guys. Loris should have been told and if it didn't suit him he could bench warm on the pretext of concussion for another 2 weeks... only one guy in charge... has to be that way.
Wasn't the 'dangerous precedent' set last week by the same club when Townsend fell into the photographers pit and was knocked out, only to return to the field of play [they'd used all their subs]. I think the Spurs medical staff need investigating as they're clearly not following safe practises.
Well it's all kicked off today, hasn't it? Although AVB does need to be admonished, let's not make this a witch-hunt, or focus on one particular club (something the FA will undoubtedly do if they think there's popularity and good press in it). The head of Headway (!) has just been on, and whilst being righteously furious about AVB, he did say they way forward is for the FA to establish clear protocols for the future. This doesn't need to happen in football (not in league football and certainly not in the Prem). There was a fatuous question from SkySports about boxers carrying on in the same circumstances, to which the guy from Headway more-or-less spat the contemptuous reply out that the intention of boxing is to render your opponent unconscious by repeated blows to the head. You get the feeling that Headway don't regard that as a sport, as such.
I agree about the boxer comment. there is a reason why boxers wear padded gloves. Loris got a knee i nthe head. he was knocked out for a period. Had he dropped a clanger later on the spuds would be out in righteous fury. It was a no brainer decision to replace him with a very good reserve keeper. Its just the fact that if i kneed a boxer i nthe head its not be considered a knockout. if a rugby player gets concussed they have protocols AFTER the game. I expect to see loris play next time out
I didn't mean for it to sound like a witch hunt against Spurs but the fact they had two k.o's in two weeks makes it a good place to start. The FA need to issue guidelines while also setting up an awareness course, run by doctors to caution players about the dangers of playing on after a head injury and also to refresh medical staff at clubs knowledge of the dangers and risks. Just read match report and it looks like Lukaku injured his knee in the incident badly enough to be taken off - that must have been some blow to the keepers head. Brain damage is notoriously slow in revealing itself, let's hope there's no lasting effects.
In fairness to UFC the idea is to knock someone out but the idea is not to kill them (the ref is there to stop that). UFC is a lot of wrestling and grappling when it gets in close to prevent someone being destroyed. When a guy gets a dig like loris does 9/10 times the ref stops it in ufc.. the only difference between boxing and ufc there is the UFC guy can pummel the guy whos got the slap a few times before its over. I think if loris had dropped one or just stood there while a shot flew in the story would be very different for AVB today. Loris only had to watch one ball go out for a goal kick and basically take in a tame shot didn't he? Certinaly if it had been 60mins on the clock everton would have got a couple of corners to drop on him etc.
It was a baffling decision in many ways. I'm not sure I even follow the logic of saying AVB was more concerned over the three points than his player. Surely he was taking more of a risk keeping on a man who's judgement may be seriously impaired by a blow to the head than replacing him with a solid, reliable substitute like Friedel? Also, part of a referee's remit is to ensure (as much as he can) the safety of the players on the pitch, so doesn't he have a say in it? I agree with mito that Lukaku either should have had a red or nothing at all, depending on whether or not the ref thought he left his leg in deliberately. As for boxing; with apologies to Sky and whoever else on here who may partake, I've been a fierce critic of it all my life. The majority of sports carry an inherent risk and all of us who have played them accept that, but boxing is the only one where the aim is to win by hurting your opponent and that just doesn't sit well with me.
I don't think its unfair at all, its AVBs duty to look after his own players and the bottom line is he put one of his players health at risk for the sake of three points. Many people have collapsed and died even days after a concussion.
ok, you are right. My point was i thought he capitulated to the player rather than actually thinking about the win or draw but either way your point about the risk to the player is well made it is his responsibility.
