http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...let-goalkeeper-carry-regardless.html#comments Yeah, before anyone mentions it I know Bert Trautmann played on with a broken neck, but if you're concussed you can't play on in rugby. Surely the medical staff have the last word and not the playing staff? And almost by definition, what weight should be given to a guy who's just suffered a head injury to say they want to carry on? This is akin to letting boxers decide if they want to keep carrying on. Maybe the FA should stop pfaffing about with grandstanding issues and get involved with something that counts.
That is worrying. If the medical team say he shouldn't play then AVB has no right to overall that decision. He is playing with someones well-being which clearly isn't right!
Sounded like Lloris said he wanted to continue but this should have been taken out of his hands by the medical team. Luckily everything seemed ok, but can only imagine if he had collapsed later on.
Was listening to Radio 4 this morning (against my will, I swear), and there was a father on talking about his son that lost his life on the rugby pitch, he was 14 and played on after being unconscious.. Apparently the poor lad didn't even know where he was and had trouble standing straight. Football should never be prioritized before health, precautions have to be taken.
Shocking. AVB puts the match before the safety of his player's health and possibly life, how did he know the keeper did not have a skull fracture? Disgraceful, absolutely shameful by AVB.
Lloris had been unconscious and was concussed, so it matters not what he wanted, it was AVB's duty to protect his players wellbeing, he should be made to attend a course on the dangers of head injuries.
That sounds eerily similar to a guy at my school, exactly same circumstances, Although he was a little older
just been on MoTD 2. As they said, there just needs to be a clear rule henceforth with no area for doubt. Don't want to turn this into an AVB slagfest - I'm sure Shankly would have just taped Lawrence's head back on if he got decapitated, but that's the point - take the decision out of the hands of the playing staff or the player himself. Concussed and/or unconscious then the medical staff take them off. End of. Btw, watching it again, that ****ing booking on Lukaku was harsh, wasn't it?
To some degree. What infuriated me about that one was Maureen slurring the medical staff for being too slow in their treatment of him. Arrogant ****.
The FA should make a clear ruling that any head injury should result in the player being: (1) removed from the pitch (2) IMMEDIATELY being sent to hospital (3) banned from playing until doctors advise that they are fit to play. Neither the manager or the player themselves are in a position to make an informed ruling about their condition.
Jesus though, if this management malarkey doesn't work out for AVB I sure as **** hopes he doesn't become a paramedic or such:- “Hugo still doesn’t remember the impact but he was quite focused and quite determined to continue. When you see this kind of assertiveness from the player it means that he is able to carry on. It was my call to delay the substitution. From my knowledge of football he seemed OK to continue.” (Telegraph, 3/11/13). His 'knowledge of football" allows him to overrule the judgement of trained medical staff regarding a head injury... as said, this is precisely why the FA should take that decision out of the hands of unquailfied people.
