If he ever got us into a position where that was an issue, then I'd be more than happy to give him a few games off! <laugh>

    To summarise:
-He'd rather be an attacking coach at Arsenal, doesn't want to be a manager. He sees himself at Ajax for 3-5 years, but then has no future plans. He talks about potentially having Vieira, Henry and Adams as backroom staff at Arsenal too.

Rene Meulensteen just signed an long term contract(I think 8 years) to be technical director for the Qatari FA, to set up the who World Cup in 2022.

Aye, think that pretty much rules out Bergkamp.

Well theres currently not a vacancy so we'll just have to wait for McNally to make a move, whatever it is.

Cove what do you think of Fred Rutten? Currently out of work but has a reasonable managerial record (although never stayed anywhere for too long). Maybe an option from abroad? Seen a bit of his teams play but not too much.

Yeah, I think it's pretty unlikely. Bielsa anyone?

    Fred Rutten, wow, eehm...
There is a lot of history with that man: very conservative, amiable character and a father figure that can work with a young team. However, when things go sour or when he takes over a team with low morale, he never was able to turn things around in the past. He is a manager that works on the long term, but at the same time demands a budget to bring in players. Those three things combined makes me think he is unsuitable for the EPL or Norwich.

I'd like Bielsa, but I'm not sure he'd be interested.

I think if and when we sign a new manager, McNally will be prepared to buy one out of their current contract as he has for the last two he's hired. This means we're likely to go for a manager with an interesting record at a club with less money than us. I think he may well go for a European incumbent, knowing that Norwich fans do not know the manager will preclude them being opposed by a particular section of the fan base ab initio. Unlike every other suggested manager so far.

Cheers <ok> sounds like he could be a bit hit and miss for us. Time sadly is something managers in the PL don't seem to have any more. Thought it a bit odd he had never stayed anywhere more than a couple of seasons. Clearly much respected at Twente though

Aye, he is, but so was Schteve McClaren, and he got sacked within 6 months.

Which teams has he taken over on low morale? I dont know much about him. His record looks very good, though it's interesting that he's been sacked at each club. More info on him would be great! Perhaps a win percentage of 70 for PSV just isn't enough in the Dutch league... I do wonder whether the Dutch contingent we have already might mean a Dutch manager would be tempting.

Schalke, PSV and Vitesse. At Schalke he just couldn't get the team to gel, at PSV he couldn't win the big matches against Ajax, Feyenoord and FC Twente, and at Vitesse he demanded the team owner Jordania to buy Leerdam, which he didn't, Rutten threw a tantrum and was sent packing at the end of the season.

Yeah, it'd be a step down in club size for Bielsa, and I don't think we've got the players to suit his style, much as I'd like to see it.

Good point on buying a manager out of contract, I guess there's no need to limit our thinking to managers out of work. In which case we're most likely looking to Europe, as I just can't see who in the Prem, SPL or Championship would be of interest. Neil Lennon perhaps but I don't see why he'd leave Celtic.

Interesting. Was that just in his last season at PSV? Because his record looks fantastic. If he threw a tantrum over player transfers, he might very well not be a McNally type... Though he did choose Lambert so you never know.

List of Dutch Managers without a club:

    - Co Adriaanse
    - Ruud Gullit
    - Frank Rijkaard
    - Aad de Mos
    - Henk ten Cate
    - Leo Beenhakker
    - Willem van Hanegem

Then there are Danny Blind and Patrick Kluivert as assistant managers of the Dutch National team.

No at Vitesse, at PSV he got sacked for bad results, which basically means not winning a title in the Eredivisie.

Hang on, I'm in a bit of a muddle - was he sacked at Vitesse for poor results or did he throw a tantrum about transfers and get fired.

I'm quite happy to have a manager previously fired for having "failed" to win a title!

In chrono form: he got sacked for not being able to get his team perform in top matches and win titles, at Vitesse he threw a tantrum and his contract was not extended at the end of the season even though he did quite decent at the club, but again, couldn't win titles.

Guus Hiddink btw went into retirement after his sacking at Anzhi, stated he doesn't want to manage another club.
