Right lets clear this up. When you give a free kick and intend to caution someone, the law states: "Once the referee has decided to issue a card, whether to caution or send off a player, play must not be restarted until the sanction has been administered." So Atkinson was spot on.

Just seen Spurs try to take a quick free kick and were called back. What does that say all the successful free kicks, often match winning, that were allowed..?

Inevitably, the first time I saw an absurdly quick free kick, it was ManU taking advantage, with the opposition scratching their heads, wondering if a new rule had been applied.
 
FT 1-0 Cardiff. So the referee says he will add more time on for timewasting and he adds on.....21 seconds. <doh>
