Where would we play Yohan Cabaye?

  1. From the Lille matches i've watched and the youtube vids made about him, he seems to be the perfect player to play behind strikers, in the CAM position, however isn't Ben Arfa supposed to be playing there next season and specifically going to be given the number 10 shirt?

    In a 4-2-3-1 formation, i'd play him here -

    ----Barton-----Tiote---

    Jonas----Cabaye---Ben Arfa

    -------New Striker-----

However, if Ben Arfa is playing in that position, where would you put Cabaye.

We're not going to be dropping Joey Barton to put Cabaye at the back with Tiote, 1. because Joey shouldn't be dropped as he's our best player, and 2. Cabaye would be wasted back there. He should be attacking with his pace and assisting the strikers. His short passes and through balls look very good, and we need that up top. Barton is the better play to knock up long balls from the back, and spread the ball around from that area, Cabaye is better slotting through our strikers. He's an excellent AM/CM.

Some people say we'd put him at the back with Tiote, and put Barton up on the right, but i'd prefer if we had 3 players with pace in the attacking areas. Barton is also great at defending the back four with his aggression and tackling, so he should stay back with Tiote.

Where would you play Cabaye then?

HBA and Cabaye behind a striker, both in AM position..

    Tiote Barton
    HBA Cabaye Jonas
    Striker

Think Real Madrids formation on Fifa <ok>

But I doubt we'll see a set formation next year, and this is all subject to whoever else we sign, I'm just going on what we have at the moment

We actually have 4 CMs that most teams outside the top 6/7 would love to have. I dunno what I'd do. Probably play 3-6-1?

By the way I spoke to a mate who knows a lot about European football and asked him last week if he knew Cabaye, he replied 'yeah, he's sick' and was amazed that Cabaye would even join our club. I'll take the latter as a good thing because it shows he's real quality and is better than a mid-table PL side! :)

How about 4-6-1, who needs a goalkeeper when we have Tiote!

Nah in all seriousness, probably just behind the striker, in the formation you posted orginally...if so looks like we will have a strong team :)

Ben Arfa won't be ready to start in the PL for a while yet. I imagine he'll get a few subs appearances in friendly matches but that's a lot different to starting a PL match. Therefore for the first 5/6 PL games Cabaye could play in the Ben Arfa position, if he does will he can stay there and put Ben Arfa on the left maybe.

    ---------------------------Krul---------------------------
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------------Tiote-------------------------
    --------------------------Cabaye-----------------------
    Gervinho--Gameiro-Best-Ba-S.Taylor-Ben Arfa-N'Zogbia-Colo

Thought I'd go for a classic 0-1-1-8 formation (figured given S.Taylor's scoring form, and Colo being awesome they could both play up front), after all we are the entertainers right?

We could convert him into an AM like Yaya has been, then he plays alongside Cabaye :D
