Think 2-0 was a fair result overall, think 3 or 4-0 wouldn't have been a fair reflection of the game, yeah we were better, but I don't think we dominated, it was a very efficient performance from us.
Could have been if giroud's clear chances were scored. No I don't think 3 or 4 would have flattered the gunners. The scousers played into your hands by leaving the midfield control to you. Gerrard and Lucas were just plain ineffectual with G showing his age. Ok you can only beat what's in front of you but you will have more difficult matches at home. I just hope that you'll get a more challenging match at OT next
You could say that about any game across the PL on any week. If we had scored our chances - it could have 2-2 but we didn't so it doesn't matter one bit. 2-0 was a fair reflection, it was a good game. But then again should I expect anything more from you Christine? Probably the biggest anti Liverpool poster on this site. If Arsenal play like that against you lot they'll absolutely ruin you....Then again you're quite used to that this season, so it shouldn't be no major surprise.
No need to say it twice mate!! I'd say we're far from average, considering the mess we were in a couple of years back
What have we here, a rational Scouser ? Thanks for the thread, good to know common sense exists up there on Merseyside My thoughts: We played extremely well, probably the most clinical performance since Napoli, I thought Liverpool were less hungry that us at times and we just wanted it more. Defensively we were outstanding, we know the BFG/Kos pairing is our best and yet again was justified with S&S getting very little joy all night. Cazorla and Rambo were excellent, Ozil was quiet, great to know there is no reliance on one or a small number of players and that a number of different players can be match winners, removes most of the pressure. Liverpool for me are not average, this is the best squad they've had for many years, what is clear to me (and was at the time) was that the Dalgeish appointment was a monumental mistake and it put the club back years, BR is doing a very good job and if teh board and fans has afforded Hodgson similar patience they could have reached the same position long before now. I still say they'll fall short this year but there's no doubt they'll be a stronger club next year and beyond, though long term finding a replacement for Gerard is obviously a major challenge. I can see Liverpool nicking the 4th spot at Utd's expense though they seem to have found some form and could yet get into the title race. As we have to keep reminding ourselves, it's very early November, a hell of a long way to go and much can change....
I think to say your team's performance was average is a bit harsh. In the earlier exchanges, the first goal could have gone to either team. If Henderson had taken the first chance when clean through on goal, who knows what would have happened. I felt the game could have gone either way, you guys did not take your chances, for some reason your offensive play was a bit subdued, even though we some hairy moments. I do not recall being able to relax until towards the end, those who say it was cigar time, were probably not at the game.
I notice that a lot of people go with the commentators with these kind of incidents, but I did think Arteta and Mertesacker played him beautifully. They had obviously done their homework and knew that he had no left foot. Arteta was right where if he had pulled it over onto his strong side, he would have been able to step in with a challenge. I don't think it was as good a chance as the commentators thought it was.
On reflection and further analysis, I agree I probably was harsh. We would have beat most teams with that performance, and didn't play too bad. Quite simply you played very well indeed, and deserved the 3 points
