Hang on a minute. The tackle split Elmos boot!! He was out of sorts for the rest of the match. The ref was right on top of it. Out of control and studs up, red. So what he rolled around abit.
Doesn't look like there is any contact on the video. My mind has changed so much. I thought initially, it was red. Then just watched the video and it doesn't look like he touched him, now you're telling me he split his boot! If so, then yes red. If not, then it's embarrassing for Elmo.
That sums it up pretty well, I thought we looked better when it was 11 v 11, was disjointed after that. Anyhow 3 points is 3 points.
I could see the pain on Elmos face from my seat, it looked genuine, you can usually tell when it's being put on. Did anyone notice Steven Fletcher go down in the first half from a non challenge and start dragging himself across the floor like a zombie with no legs? Before the goal of course, then got straight up as soon as the ball was kicked out.
7 or 8 red cards in the premier League for Cattermole although the really bad one was the Dossena challenge , nobody can defend that
Pleased with 3 points but very disappointed with the 2nd half. There was just no urgency about our play, like we were satisfied with the one goal and it very nearly all went wrong. Remember when their goalie was right up the other end of the field then we had a goal kick, why did Harper just hang on to the ball for ages when he should have been booting it up the other end trying to catch their keeper out, in fact he might have done a Stoke and scored himself. I suppose after all the effort in the last couple of games this is all we could have expected. Not a great game to watch and a bit worrying that we didn't actually score a goal but still 10th and I am hopeful it will be a different story next week.
It isn't that easy though. They sat on the edge of the box all half, we can't make them come out and press us so it was a weird half of crosses and long shots. If we had a Wilshere type player who could drive from midfield or even someone like Aluko up front it'd have been easier but we have to accept we're still a small club with limited options in terms of ways to play. Yeah I thought this. Haven't seen what AKCJ saw so I can't argue but he looked really hurt at the time. The other players seemed really concerned for him and the physio was rushed on.
Juleps he was facing a strong wind. The ball would have come straight back., that's why we passed the ball out all of the second half.
To me he just tried to put his foot on top the ball he did not really challenge Meyler. He missed the ball and Meyler went over his leg. He was actually running at a 90 deg angle to Meyler, not sure it should have been a sending off?
Fletcher also fell over near the corner flag, looked appealingly at the linesman who then flagged for a free kick! To be honest he was going down at every opportunity
I saw this too. Nothing was given at first, he looked at the linesmen to ask for a free kick and then he gave it. It was a foul though in fairness.
Good game to watch. A tad frustrating but still a good game to watch. Sunderland looked poor with 11 men but after the HT subs came on they looked better with 9 men than 11. Both sendings off were deserved and the best team won. Harper did well to block Adam Johnson late on but he had little else to do in the game. 1-0 to Hull City after the Spurs week we have just had shows the club is moving well in the right direction. Long may it continue. Will enjoy super sunday evenmore so now. Well done to all the players and also ref. Andre Marriner who got it all about spot on. I heard that Cattermole was getting some twitter hassle from his own fans after the game. Oh dear. Lol.
I don't think we were prepared to play against a team that was so closed down. Never been in that position of dominance, at least not at this level. Happy with the 1-0, three more points, thank you very much.
If that was a good game to watch, then God help us. Both 100% red cards. Our inability to score a second was not too surprising, we are ****e in the final third and we know it. Three points were what we were about after half-time and that was achieved, so job done. Mannone looked very good, his movement and distribution impressed, Westwood will/should struggle to get his shirt hack. Our priority is getting those injuries sorted.
Good point, second half reminded me of a FA cup tie against a league 2 side, when they're hanging on for a draw, the longer the game went on we became more conscious of being caught on the break. We have the lowest possession in the league and suddenly we are dominating possession. If you've ever played football you understand how difficult it can be, it either goes one way and you thrash them or you get frustrated. Sendings off Chattermole a little exuberant, but did catch Elmo, red card Dossena definite red Mcshane 50/50 Brady strictly speaking a red, but didn't hit Johnson and his reaction was embarrassing
People say Cattermole didn't really catch Elmo but I don't think that matters according to the laws of the game. It was reckless. He threw himself like a javelin from a distance. That wasn't simply an old fashioned sliding tackle.
Cattermole certainly caught Elmo. The match of the day footage clearly shows Cattermole,s left boot hitting Elmo just above the right ankle.
Cattermole knew it was a red-card before the ref pulled it, as he was already walking. Anyone who reckons it wasn't really ought to think again. The second was an attack, not a tackle and should be dealt with hard by his manager (but won't be). McShane did nothing wrong. Brady was a yellow. Poyet should have got a joker, what a ****er he was.
