I see what you're getting at Colin but I feel you state your case a little too strongly, so for the moment, I will draw attention to what I see as an error in what you've written. I do not want to become involved in a side-line that detracts from your interesting topic, and for this reason have no desire to become involved in a protracted argument; and, for what it's worth, I feel I should tell you that I am not a 'fan' of any particular driver. You raise some interesting points, but in my opinion, Hamilton was not 100% at fault for both collisions.
I think you may be jumping into assumptions there, Silver. Nobody said x is the new y. I was talking about limits being constantly pushed back by a particular kind of aggressive driving, of which Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton are not the only proponents but they are the ones mentioned in James Allen's blog.
Fair enough, Silver, but I think behavioural comparisons are inevitable and sometimes worthwhile. We all accept that Hamilton is Hamilton, not Senna reincarnate. Here's an interesting point for me though. I remember through the Schumacher years how, in qualifying, MSC came out and burned from his first lap, putting in a sensational time that his rivals often had to build themselves up to matching or beating over their three or four runs. To me, this was reflected in his career, too. He was always sensationally fast, always aggressive and always pushed a bit too much sometimes in exploring the limits of the track and the rules. He didn't change, evolve or improve from 1994 to 2006, in my opinion. It may be going off-topic but I'm not sure why Hamilton's behaviour was compared to "a young Schumacher." To me Schumacher was pretty constant throughout his career in his behaviour.
