Yes, I am guilty of making a whopping big sweeping generalistion, QPRNY, for which I apologise unreservedly.

There are gullible people prepared to accept as fact the stories told in certain movies everywhere and not just in the US.

Make it legal and tax it. Expenditure turned into income.

Good call on Tacitus Col, I should have known having used him as a key source for 2 years at A level. Interesting bloke, a true republican tightrope walking through writing a history of the Empire to date (about 90AD for him) Tiberius in particular gets it in the neck. He is as good a secondary source as we have, and I have no doubt he believed what he wrote about 'Christus', but this is no way solid evidence - by the time he was writing the myth was already being created in Rome. And the Gospels cannot be considered a source for anything, they contradict each other and sometimes themselves, as you would expect from propaganda. But Pilate was pretty certainly a prefect of Judea around 30AD.

I refer you back to my earlier comments about the legalisation issue, Stroller. I cannot see a regulated legal system that could work. Probably one that we'll have to agree to differ on?

I think the average person is the reason that the movies are made. They have always been meant to take the viewer away from their lives for awhile and entertain them with places and things they may never see for themselves.

Do all good storytellers stretch the truth? Sure, like I wrote before; never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

In retrospect Dark Side is a pretty punky album lyrically, certainly not about elves and such, and I like the tunes in Shine On. Earlier stuff is a little fey and self conscious to me, but it has integrity, and is of its time.

Interesting, your focus on the users and the people they care about. There will always be drugs around, no matter how hard we try to police it and draconian the laws and their enforcement, and there will always be junkies. I'm more interested in reducing the impact first on the victims of the 'petty' crime that users perpetrate to fund their habit (not petty to the victims) and especially the truly evil and corrupting organized crime gangs that run the trade, producing victims every step of the way. I have no idea if these consumption rooms would make a difference, but Im all for having a go at the criminals through reducing demand.

    Thought we'd done this one?

Songs about death and insanity are hardly classic punk themes. OK so they are not "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" nor "Interstellar Overdrive", but I think you are betraying your roots mate. If only I had a time machine......

You sure did (in post #194) and I did (#173-ish).

I question whether filmmakers always mean to just take viewers away from their lives awhile etc. I am sure that some wish to be influential and make some form of propaganda. I think Oliver Stone is a little like that.

Oh, right. Gun crime and fatherly love? Got it!

(I was referring to the Floyd stuff too... Never got into 'em, I'm afraid... Was always the band the pretentious kids were into when I was at school...the rest of us liked Saxon and Motörhead)

PostScript: clever things these iPads; it knew where to put the umlaut on Motörhead!

Completely agree about the Gospels..........I wouldn't accept them of evidence of anything.
You're quite right that there is no definite solid, tangible evidence. But writers such as Tacitus are widely accepted as have given truthful accounts, based on other things they have written that CAN be proved.
No way of knowing of course.

Look up The Ossuary...............latest thinking is that it could well be genuine!

There are people dressed in similar clothing as Bin Laden in my local Asda, Kiwi.

I think there's quite a gulf between wearing (say) modern military uniform and something as evocative as that of an SS officer. I agree with Stan's sentiment, though, in that people that do this shouldn't necessarily be banned, but should be prepared to face the derision, anger and ridicule of the general public.

This man appears to have turned his home into a miniature version of SS-Führungshauptamt. I would like to understand why he has chosen such an appalling subject for worship. I can understand why people have a fascination for and collect wartime memorabilia, but this is something else.

Good point the Anglo Saxon wants all rules his way but every country is allowed to remember their lost and we are allowed to bend the truth as we see fit

    What was ... Was

Freedom of choice and opinion is a truly great thing we take for granted

We have to moan its in our generic and cultural make up now ... What that culture is now is the debate IMO
