On a similar note, and as that picture has just reminded me. Did anybody know that the correct way to wear a poppy is with the leaf pointing towards the 11 o'clock position? I'm usually 'good' for knowing little details like that, but it's the first time I've heard it.
It's to signify the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, though the British Legion say there isn't actually an official position to have it in, some just like the idea. Another useless piece of information, in Scotland poppy's have four petals and no leaf.
What's the reason? Screws up the economies of scale by running two variants. Inspired by our Buckfast drinking brethren.
Despite the different design for the main bit of the poppy reducing the economies of scale benefits, by not having a leaf on them the poppies sold in Scotland cost £15,000 less than if they were the same as the ones sold in England, so that's £15,000 extra for the charity at the end of it all.

Point is having two variants - regardless of who for is less economical. Why not just have one variant and **** the leaf off, always ends up bent and looking a dogs dinner 20 seconds after attaching. Surely it is better to have more money for charity than different poppies?
There is one complete cock near me who refuses to observe the silence. He was thrown out a few years ago as someone tried hitting him. I felt like hitting him too, I'd have done a better job! Just been to the Armistice clearing near Soissons in France, there's hundreds and thousands of war graves in this area and it's very moving to see them all.
