Saw a bloke on local TV this morning, Got bowel cancer which has spread to his liver, they have given him months to live. Apparently there is a drug available, that will keep him alive for years. Why can't he get said drug, because he lives in county, that does not prescribe said drug. Whereas, if he lived 3 miles down the road in a different county, he would be entitled to said drug. And before, you all say just tell the **** to move, apparently it is illegal to move from county to county, in order to get priority drug treatment. He as worked, paid National Insurance all his life, & when he needs the NHS, he gets shafted for living in the wrong county. His 2 daughters are now doing charity events, to try & raise the money, so their dad can have private treatment, which is the same drug, that the NHS do not provide in his county. How **** is that? You cant get a drug that will keep you alive for years, but the NHS will dish out Methadone for ****ing Druggies. We Need A System Change. Thoughts?
Do not get me started on being shafted by the government because I could tell you some stories. It seems to me that if you work hard and keep out of trouble you get nothing and if you haven't had a job in thirty years you get free medical treatment and every benefit under the sun. It isn't just the NHS that needs to be changed. Changes are needed across the board.
We need to stop keeping people alive artificially beyond their years. It's unfortunate that he has cancer but that's life. What's the drug going to do? Keep him alive for another couple of years until it comes back? Or keep him alive until cancer affects him elsewhere in the body?
And what happens if they don't find a cure? Keep him alive in pain and suffering in the off chance? The cure will come when it comes (if there is ever a cure.) We can't keep going the way we're going.
The natural drug that is given with this condition (bowel cancer), extends life for a few months, this new drug available extends life for years, all the guy wants, was too see his teenage daughters grow up & have a family. Is that too much too ask?
Who says he's in pain and suffering? The only person who should decide whether he gets the treatment which could keep him alive should be him.
Have they instruments now which can tell how much pain a person is in? Do you currently have any close family suffering from Cancer?
People, stop arguing, all i was asking is, is it fair that 1 person in a certain county, can get treatment, whereas another person living 3 miles away, but in a different county cannot?
Cryogenics is the answer to everything. Take overpopulation, you simply have to tell a lot of people that they're being put in stasis for a few hundred years. When they wake up, they'll be the age they are now, medical science will have progressed so anything wrong with them can be cured, and they'll be millionaires from the interest on their bank accounts (or similar). People would be biting your hand off for it. I bet you could convince 10% of people, (or 50% of America) to be cryogenically frozen, and all the worlds problems are simultaneously solved.
I've lost half my family to cancer including my mother, an older sister and a niece. It's a horrible disease but we need to start being realistic. Huth, what age is this person?
Well then, to answer your original question, it is unfair that there is a postcode lottery when it comes to medical treatment in England.
