I'd disagree with that as well though, of course fan base comes into it but football is about winning things. Of course Wigan will never be a bigger club than us, but they have won the same amount of major honours. Also I never really considered Chelsea among Europes elite until your CL win so I think trophys are important. I also feel that we have more chance of winning the league cup than finishing in the top 6. So I would happily take wins over Sunderland and Chelsea over say 6 points in the league.
Winning the title is everything because it is so hard to achieve. Any team can win a cup. Not even close.
Totally agree, and that's why we aren't yet a big club. When we can fill a 40,000+ stadium for every game; when there are 10,000 on the waiting list for season tickets; when you get off a plane anywhere in the world and see a Saints shirt being worn by the locals and then take a taxi with a Saints badge hanging from the rear view mirror then we'll be a big club. But as Man City have proven, if you get noticed the fan base can rocket. Blimey, I even saw Pompey shirts being worn in Cheshire after their 2008 Cup win! If we can complete the League and Cup double to which we came so close in 1984 we'll be on our way. Now that's ambition!
Absolutely, 100% and no hesitationâ¦â¦winning the league (even though 01/05/76 was just about the greatest day of my life, unless of course my wife is in earshot!)
Man City have always been a big club with a large fanbase. Surely you meant 'as Chelsea have proven' seeing as they could hardly fill Stamford Bridge until money and improved results tempted glory boys to choose them. Man City have always had massive support. Maine Road had 30k+ in L1!!!
Man City has massive support, which I expect is in part due to having United as an alternative. No City fan would switch, so they'd keep going just to spite United.
Yes. You'll have to do better. How about winning the Premier or coming 4th and winning Champions League next year
Which of the options TSS has laid out will NC choose. I expect he has some input into the decision to play the strongest 11 for the LC or not. I'd like to see a bit of a mix of players. Maybe Cork, Chambers, Maya to start along with Gaston. We will likely need them as the season progresses and I don't think it would be a much weaker side.
I was just trying to refine the domestic options, Lff. Perhaps if I had said, winning the PL title or winning the LC and FAC and coming a close 2nd. Now that is a lot tougher. I might actually go for the latter, in that case. Possibly not though.
