    Still can't see it unless he expects to get sacked soon, which I don't see happening anytime soon unless Ashley sells the club soon.

    Plausible enough.

    I doubt he's on a large wedge at Newcastle. Palace may well be able to pay him something pretty comparable and promise him he will be able to function like a proper manager.

    Throw in the fact that he will be able to say that he got fed up with Ashley and left (principled and strong minded) rather than that he got sacked (always a risk even if he doesn't think it's imminent) and moving back down to London might start to look pretty good.

    The rumour couldn't have been labelled any more ludicrous if the club tried. Aside from just rolling around the floor laughing at it or threatening to sue Twitter for libel, they pretty much shot it down.

    I'd give more credence to the "3 and out" rumour instead. Ashley fired Hughton mid-Dec, and as we're a Jan-Window club, it'd make sense to have a new manager in before the 1st. So he can be told what half-baked players we've lined up from L'Orient and Nantes, and to smile and enjoy the ride. Because he will be ridden. Hard.
