Spurs fans were impressed with Jakupovic - remarked it looked odd he was #3 GK for us. One even talked of chucking in a £500k bid for back up to Lloris
I was genuinely impressed with him, considering how little game time he gets, he looked pretty reliable.
do you lot have no idea what difference mclean made last night? did you not see it? we spent the first half camped in our own half soaking up pressure because spurs were getting all the room they needed to build from the back. bruce sent on mclean to eliminate that space, to close down spurs defenders, to allow city to get forward and not be pinned back. mclean did that to a t. he went out there and did exactly the job he was put on to do. he might not be up to premier league standard, but he did a damn good job for us last night and anyone who can't see that needs their heads checking. so he missed a penalty, so what? so did some £30million tottenham player.
I don't think last night told us anything we didn't already know, Mclean and Proschwitz had already been written off by Brucey. I suggested to the Spurs fans that we might fancy Defoe on loan, they laughed it off and said we hadn't a prayer.
If Gedo took his chance we would have won that game against a team with some world class players in it, 'time for a clear out' seems like an excessive title for a thread to me.
Proschwitz needs a run in the team to show his worth, which he isn't going to get. I don't think he should be lumped in with Mclean in terms of his quality.
Well I've been saying it for a while now, he's a decent goalie. He just isn't as good as McGregor. He's much more match fit than Harper is from playing in the reserves. He even got his punches right, although I suspect the save he made in the second half was for the cameras, he could've just caught it.
The BBC stats suggest Spurs had three shots on target, so other than the goals he only had to save the free kick. But yes, other than one half-punch he had a steady night.
However you rate them they were needed last night and until we get better players in they need to stay.
Sorry but this is Utter tosh. If you were at the game last night you will have noticed that it was McLean who injected much life into us in the 2nd half up front. Graham was poor but was he fit enough ? McLean is Not the most skilled Yes........but what he gives is effort and passion. Siomething that some of Spurs players could well do with. Talent without the effort and passion is a waste. What the last 2 games with Spurs has proven to Steve Bruce at last is that he has a squad for the PL that can play and battle. AND it wont break the bank either.
On what i have seen of Defoe in the last 2 games No Thanks. We have done a great job on him especially last night. Great he also got booked for diving. Well done ref. Moss That was the key turning point. Sadly for us. Prozzy would have put that Gedo chance away. As Steve Bruce says, he is the best finisher at the club.
Tickles, I was, and I have defended the lad time and time again for his effort and what I always thought he brings to the team. It's not enough. I do not want a striker that runs his arse off, but delivers nothing, we do not have the luxury for that sort of sentiment. His penalty was poor, and was a golden opportunity for him to show what he could do. I think others have said before, if he has no time to think, he's ok, and thats how he scored so many for Posh, but give him 5 seconds thought time, and he's awful. Prossie looks like he's a yellow card waiting to happen. Graham looked fit enough to me, he just couldn't hit the side of a barn with a banjo. Like all season. Even with the whistle for that offside, he SHOULD HAVE HIT THE TARGET. I ignored the Swans fan I work with when we first signed him, but when he walked past me today and said "5 million?" then started laughing, I had to agree. We looked like a battling championship side last night against a top half PL team on cruise control. "They played well and were a credit to themselves" is not going to see us where we want to be. It's patronising and annoys me. We need goals, more than the other team, and we will not get them off those 3. I realise they have a much better, deeper squad than us, and it's obviously going to take us a while to achieve that. If we can, we need to offload those 3 as soon as we can though.
there's this myth that all strikers finish with the efficiency of Diego Costa, Falcao or Van Persie - it ain't so.. Gedo is good enough that was his first outing for ages, Mclean & Prossie were being shop-windowed.. alas they'll be in the bargain-bucket..
I think that if we continue to play as we are at present I don't think we would have any trouble at all. The only stumbling block would be if the other PL teams didn't want to loan a player to a fellow PL team and I don't see that as a problem with the top four as they will not percieve us as competition.
Boyd is the biggest surprise for me this season, I've always been a fan and I was really chuffed when we signed him, but at this level I expected him to be a squad player at best. In the last two games, he's looked every bit a Premier League player.
