To Khal Piego. Your manager will no doubt think he can beat us. after all we are the mighty 'Dagenham and Redbridge' (go research) Roll on next week when the mighty Saints steamroller the SAFC :~) Hope we put a good team out.
Full strength side against Sunderland please, win that n we're only 3 games from Wembley! Also, I'd rather finish 12th and win a cup than finish 8th with no cup run.
Err..... No. I tried. I really did try to see it your way, but the league is all, especially when it comes to the sharper end. How about 6th or 16th under the same parameters..? Still no go..? OK, how about 4th or 14th..? That turned your head, didn't it..! Hell, let's really go for it. How about finishing 4th or 8th with the League Cup..?
I don't think the draw tonight will affect the team picked for sunderland. I think Jesus is still very much in control and the teams for stoke and sunderland already chosen. Im not that unhappy with that, after all "nobody f**k's with the Jesus".
For your first 2 would definitely take the cup, as a Saints fan in his early 20s I have never seen us win a major honour (hell we've only won 1 in our history). As for the last one that's a much tougher question (can you imagine Real Madrid at St Marys??), though would probs go for 8th as 4th doesn't get you in the group stages and winning league cup puts us in the EL win that in 2015 and hey presto we're on our way to the San Siro!
My other point on this matter is alot of fans are talkung about us going to the next level and becoming a big. Big clubs win trophys, it's as simple as that
Coming 8th in the Premier League and winning the League Cup is not going to the next level. Coming 4th is, it's as simple as that.
League position is everything for us at the moment. A cup means a lot more to a team that routinely comes top 6-8, but never makes the CL spots. It makes the season more exciting. This is only our second PL season (in our present reincarnation) so a high position in the league is of greater importance. However, we are not in a position to trade....if losing at Sunderland or against Chelsea guaranteed us a rise up the table I would take it, but, since it doesn't, I want to win every game. I'm sure we will play a few bench players next week against Sunderland, but, if we win, I would expect a full team to be put out against Chelsea. The manager has his pride you know.
Must be Cortese again...though I'm just glad he's giving Mauricio at least another season to take the title
The only thing I would swap winning the League Cup for, would be 4th or above. Anywhere else in the league is irrelevant. A cup win goes down in history and folklore.
How about coming 2nd on goal difference OR... [wait for it]... coming 16th and winning the League Cup AND the FA Cup..? Torture..?
OK, last time I'm going to do this. This is a BIGGIE..! Ready for it..? How about... Winning the Premier League title... OR coming 6th AND winning the League Cup AND the FA Cup..? I just pushed that knife in a little deeper and gave it a wiggle..!
Disagree. A club is only as big as it's fanbase IMO. Saints are a big club, no amount of silverware will change that. Wigan are a small club, no amount of FA Cups will change that. Saints are one of only two teams outside the top 7 that possess genuine quality and enough to challenge that cartel of teams.
