League Cup games to be played week of the 16th of December, we play at Stamford Bridge on the 1st of December and they visit St. Mary's on New Years. We played them thrice in a month or two last year two, of course taking a hammering in the FA Cup but getting 4 points from the league games. Given the choice if we get through would people like it the other way around this year or same again? I'm torn, personally. Cup progress would be great but another 4 points would be immensely valuable.
1st December - Chelsea Away 17/18th December - Chelsea Home in League Cup (if we beat Sunderland) 1st January - Chelsea Home Although not all in the same month (December), it is a month between the first and third games.
Why stop there/ Should just forfeit the game. After all, we'll never beat Chelsea, will we? Giving up because of a tough tie is pretty sad.
Champions League finishes the week before and no FA Cup till January so "the big teams" can play near enough full strength XI's.
Well their second team has Mata, Ba and Luiz, arguably their three best players last season, so yes maybe!
Doubt very much that you will (or many other teams). Not with the Christmas fixture congestion, especially given that you're playing Arsenal/Swansea/Liverpool/us in a ten-day span immediately thereafter.
I think st_brendy is not just bothered whether Saints win or lose in the League Cup. Little bit different to giving up.
It takes all sorts. Personally, I think the League Cup is perfectly winnable. Get past Sunderland and Chelsea might be there for the taking. I do hope everyone underestimates us. I fear they won't, but you never know. The reality of playing against us may be even worse than the building reputation. EDIT: I'm sure st_brendy will be delighted if Saints do progress in the League Cup. If it is at the expense of League form, then I suspect he'll be less sanguine. As would I.
"I'm sure st_brendy will be delighted if Saints do progress in the League Cup. If it is at the expense of League form, then I suspect he'll be less sanguine. As would I" Exactly. Either side of Sunderland we have to hugely winnable games against Stoke and Hull, so I'd probably even to go as far to say I'd be a little annoyed if MP put out a near full strength side out against Sunderland especially if we don't get the desired result against Stoke.
