By the way, I hope you smash West Ham and win the bastard thing. (Just so we can say we lost to the winners...)
**** me! I nip out to do a spot of late-night shopping at ASDA, thinking it was all for us, and I find out that we won 8-7 in a penalty shoot-out thriller, to book our place in the quarter finals, at home to the Spanners!
He's learnt that Hull were not to be trifled with. Which will be utterly useless information until you come to the KC in February.
We were looking at Reading's Alex McCarthy (Spurcat confirmed it), but then they slapped a silly money price on him. Chievo's Marco Silvestri was mentioned, but he's on loan at Padova for the season.
Well done Whitespurs beating the Hull City Tigers franchise in the goal shoot out equalization decider one versus one overtime playoffs
Cheers mate, so do I. I can't stand West ham and so want revenge for the 0-3. Good luck to Hull for the rest of the season (except against us of course - though I think we may have used up all our good luck v you this season
I can see Hull troubling a lot of teams this season, which ought to help a lot of our nay-sayers put things into some kind of perspective. I certainly don't see them getting relegated.
Re Brad I said during the window a new back up keeper was vital, as the gulf between him and Hugo is immense. Hugo is easily our most important player and without him (unless we get a capable deputy in) we wouldn't get top 4 or a trophy, he's that overwhelmingly important- some people disagreed with me - Well I stand by that- wonder if the naysayers have changed their mind?
People right us off because it's easy. We're an unfashionable Club and people see us as completely inferior and punching above our weight. Everybody, including most pundits except the ones that actually research what they're talking about, thought we'd be whipping boys but our defence has been the strongest aspect of our team since relegation from the top flight last time. We've lacked a clinical goal scorer for ages now, and our defence is the only thing that has kept us in a strong position. Last Season for example; we were promoted automatically without having a single player score more than 8 goals. We're resolute and hard to beat, with a bunch of hungry and determined players being backed by a Manager who is trying to redeem some lost pride. Great game tonight by the way, was the polar opposite to Sunday's match. It's just our luck that we'd go out on Penalties, but at least we can focus on the League now. Good luck for the rest of the Cup, I've always liked Tottenham. I reckon it's a top four finish beckoning for you guys. We'll hopefully be returning to White Hart Lane as a Premier League Club next Season!
We won on pens! (because, watching the game with the sound off, I switched off when the ninety minutes ended, thinking there would be a replay...thank God, I probably would have had a heart attack...it's clear I have to walk away when there's a shootout.) Great crowd! Credit to Hull, who deserved better. Here's hoping they finish midtable. Great to see Kaboul back and looking good. I just hope his knee doesn't flare up again. Lloris is responsible for half our PL points. Having scored so few and given up fewer, it's a statistical anomaly we only have one draw in 17 games. It's also some kind of anomaly that we're 14-1-2. How is it that the player who's scored three times more goals in open play in the league than anyone else hasn't been playing lately? We may do better with through balls as we go along and coalesce. We weren't missing by much. On the other hand, when we go through-ball hunting, we look really toothless. Whatever you think of the slow buildup, we look a lot better when we pass it around for a while outside the box looking for an opening rather than trying to force passes that aren't there. While the triangles look sharp, and the through balls may come with practice and more patience, we look horrible at moving down the field fast. Playing the ball into space to let a player run onto it looks like something we never practice. It would seem like an arrow we ought to have for our quiver. I'm sorry to say it, but Defoe was poor and Eriksen was disappointing as well. Lamela was actually looking a bit better--not good, but better--before his free kick just missed. Great for Kane! Maybe he'll kick on. He's been a useful player this year, just couldn't get a goal until now. We won on pens!
That's weird - I'm sure there was one we won a few years ago under Harry in the League Cup. I only half-remember it cos I didn't see the game. Am I imagining it? I know the BBC site said the 1994 stat but I'm sure there was one. Watford? I'm seeing yellow...
I could only watch the first half. So a bunch of crap all round again, then? The crowd seemed pretty muted to me in the first half, unlike what people are saying here. Did they perk up after half time? Can anyone see any hint of a glimpse of a glimmer of hope for Lamela? He really does look absolutely terrified of the ball. And rather crap with it too. Oh God - I wrote down some stuff that is positive about this AVB team last night and I just can't put a brave face on again. We look utter **** and we are going to get viciously found out in the league soon. I expect more West Ham-style humblings to come. There really is so little to be positive about. I hate to say it but at this point in time I feel totally vindicated in my position re both Redknapp's sacking and AVB's appointment. I hope that all those clamouring for change and for a new, young manager to "take us to the next level" are satisfied with what we have now. Which is a boring team made up of strangers who don't know how to play in English football and, in one or two cases, don't look like they'll make it in this country. And we keep making hard work of fluking our way past low to mid-table teams.
Well since my glass started off being pretty bloody full a couple of years ago and then a bunch of people decided that it wasn't full enough so decided to shake it about but ended up just spilling a load yes - I would say it's more on the half-empty side rather than the half-full side.
