Cup wins are great but what used to be a huge plus, a place in Europe, is really a big drawback for most teams. Think how difficult it would be with City's current squad and injury list - I'm quite happy for us to concentrate on developing the sort of squad depth that will allow us to genuinely compete in all competitions (but it could take a few years!).
Yeah, it's a shame. I remember how excited I was to see Spurs get back into the UEFA Cup a few years back but it's been bastardised beyond all recognition now and it's a shame to see the fans are no longer all that interested. Back when it was 2 legs and knockouts from start to finish, that was an exciting competition, these days the groups and seedings mean that it doesn't even get interesting until about the Quarter finals. I still think it could be a lot of fun for a club like yourselves. I very much enjoyed our run last season, partly because we got to play Inter and Lyon along the way which felt like proper European ties. Wouldn't you know it we win them and then get knocked out by a lesser known team(they were really good to be fair). I'm hoping we make another go of it this year too and with any luck we'll move up to the Champions League again next season. I guess the League Cup's similar too in that it's not very highly valued these days and clubs often see it as a distraction and field weak teams. Personally I'd love to win it, it's not like we're too good for it as it's the only trophy we seem to win these days. Anyhow, looking forward to the game tonight. I'm more relaxed for this game than Sunday's which probably means we'll go and lose now
Stats from BBC Sport... Head-to-Head This is their first meeting in the League Cup. Hull have only won once at White Hart Lane - a 1-0 victory in their first-ever season in the Premier League in October 2008. Tottenham Spurs have not lost in 90 minutes at home in the League Cup since losing 3-1 to Birmingham City in October 2000 - a run on 18 matches. Before beating Aston Villa in the last round, Tottenham were knocked out in their preceding four League Cup matches against top-flight opposition. They have won the competition four times in 1971, 1973, 1999 and 2008. Hull City Hull have reached the fourth round of the League Cup for the first time since 1977-78, when they lost 5-1 at Arsenal. The Tigers have been eliminated on six of the last seven occasions that they have faced Premier League opposition in this competition. That win came at Wigan Athletic in August 2008, the only occasion they have won over 90 minutes away from home against top flight opposition in 20 League Cup matches.
It's a shame. I'd love to meet you guys in the next round. Ah well, we'll have to wait til next season until we face you. Whisper it quietly, the blues are going up.
I dunno why we're assuming you won't make it. We beat Spurs with players like Elvis Hammond and Mark de Vries before so you've every chance. Plus you played well against them on Sunday. Oh you joker.
#hcafc team: Jakupovic, Rosenior, Bruce, Davies, Meyler, Graham, Koren, McShane, Boyd, Elmohamady, Quinn. #hcafc subs: Harper, Figueroa, Gedo, Sagbo, Mclean, Faye, Proschwitz.
Where's Dudge? I'm surprised McLean has been brought back onto the bench in the last couple rather than picking Dudge, especially when we didn't have a defender on the bench on Sunday. Reasonably strong side, there'll be a few changes for Saturday but not an 11 man switch like we could've had.
Bruce said he's set-up pretty similar to Sunday. Also said the ref called him and apologised about his decision.
4 striker subs & only 2 defenders? Either we're REALLY thin on the ground squadwise or SB wants to go for it.
