I have to keep reminding myself that he's been brought into a maelstrom, played under 3 managers and, despite the turmoil, run himself ragged ...... all this and he's just a young lad of 23 years old. We had a terrible start to the season, sacked the manager and lost Fletcher but he kept going. On Sunday the pressure was on. A local derby, desperation around the ground and he just got on with the job. He pulled defenders all over, kept running to the end and was on the edge of the box, near the end, to set up the winning goal. I wasn't impressed, until now, but I think £6.5 million might prove to be a bit of a bargain if Poyet and his coaches can bring him on. If we could get a few seasons out of him he could do a good job and actually make us a profit, who'd have thought it? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24743339
He just needs a goal and he'll fly. Little bit of confidence and he can't half whack them from distance. Im a fan I just hope some of our boo boys don't turn in him.
He scored in his second game for us(against Southend in the Carling Cup) and then he didn't look like scoring again, it was 18 appearances later when he finally scored in the league and we thought he'd finally start flying. Ten games later and he still hadn't scored again when he decided to give Hutton a Glaswegian handshake and that was the end of that. He has the unfortunately nickname of Dozy on our board.
I think he'll get goals in spurts throughout his time here, 2 here then a little drout then aother goal here and there, he's had near to zero actual service. The one through ball I remember him getting was against mk dons and he buried it.
He is a decent player and a much better option than Graham or Wickham for that matter. I think when everyone is fit he will be on the bench and we will go with 1 up top and 3 behind.
As long as he scores now and again but helps Fletcher to 20+ I'll be very happy. However, I'd rather he took the 'edge of the box' free kick than Fletcher tbh.
I agree, he'd make a great sub to bring on if we need a goal when defenders are tiring ..... the Mag defence looked out on their feet at the end.
We were definitely **** that season, we barely had a decent starting XI, even if every bastard in the squad was fit.
I'm a big fan of Altidore, he won't score as many as Fletcher, but he will score goals and help others score goals as well
Altidore preparing for Hull return Published: 30 October, 2013 by SAFSee Striker catches up with SAFSee to discuss derby and KC trip. SAFSee sits down with Jozy Altidore as the striker looks ahead to his return to former club Hull as well as last weekend's 2-1 Wear-Tyne derby win over Newcastle. If the roles were reversed there'd be loads of Sunderland saying he'd be nailed on to score against his old team
I really really want Altidore to work out. I just haven't seen anything about him playing for us that makes him stand out. Far too often he is more interested in the oppo than the actual football and his actual control hasn't been that good when he does get the ball. I agree he is a better option than Graham and Wickham though. He does put a shift in, but I question his decision making. I will give you one example, Altidore did a canny flick on for Fletcher who had a shot which Krul spilt. Altidore jogged in for the spill like it was an after thought. If the roles had been reversed Fletcher would have followed the shot in like good strikers do and had a tap in. This isn't me making him a scapegoat it is me voicing an opinion.
That is a perfect example of why i think we purchased him, he & fletch are made for each other, they've only played 2 games together, when the chemistry is there i can see a lethal partnership forming
