Well, it's difficult to say. He seems content enough with that role, so there's probably no great desire to get rid of him. Realistically though I can't see him starting a league game, and if his role is reduced to "fresh legs", it doesn't exactly make him indispensable.
Can not see him being happy as a fringe player with the world cup coming up. In his preferred position of No10 he is firmly behind Rickie, Lallana and Davis. In his other position on the right he is behind JWP and Lallana. It would need more than 1 injury for him to get into the team. At the moment he is a bench warmer at best
Shola Ameobi has been showing potential since 1997 Sorry couldn't resist that one. I tend to agree with you but we'll never keep him away from first team football in a World Cup year for all sorts of reasons. I think we'll end up loaning him out.
All I'm saying is, it's possible for players to come into favour as well as going out of favour, and to presume that he will remain out of favour for the rest of the season is naive.
The last thing I want to happen to Gaston is to sell him to a club that we might end up meeting in the Champions League in a couple of years, and him ripping us apart. Despite his lack of match time this season, I still think he has a role to play for us, but in the meantime, loaning him might be the best thing for all concerned.
I do think Ramirez will become good (not world class like some people expected him to be in his first season here!), just not with us. The longer left on his contract, the more he's going to cost.
True, his wage bill can't be astronomical. As much as I like Guly and remember with fondness his L1 and NPC days I feel his time here is limited. How long does he have left on his contract? I seem to remember that before the start of last season he signed a 1y extension and don't remember him signing another one. When the day comes and Guly does leave can we have an honoury testimonial for all the Guly lovers?
Guly has a Squawka rating of -2! http://www.squawka.com/players/guly...#season-2013/2014#64#all-matches#1-9#by-match Guly's OK when he's brought on to retain possession and to chase down players (which our pressing style involves a lot of), but I wouldn't want to rely on him to create a golden chance or to get a late winner! His contract runs out in summer *2015 so, with a possible winger purchase in January, will mean he'll probably return to Brazil (like he's previously said in an interview) this summer. *2014, one year out!
Runs out at the end of this season I believe. You would have to imagine it won't be extended, and I'm sure he realises that, he does seem to playing within himself slightly (not that he's slacking off but he seems not to be trying to score or anything, then again he has always had that kind of air about him). I hope he gets a good club back in Brazil that will bring the best out of him.
