There is a clear reason why England perform so poorly at football - the likes of Carrick, Barry and now Jordan Henderson. Why is it that England need to a place in the team dedicated to these nothing players who fade out of the game and then get praise heaped upon them - it is only in England that these players are worth £20 million. The new German machine, destined to win Euro 12, has this role dedicated to schweinstiger and in Spain it is xavi. In England it is Gareth Barry - and then it will be Henderson. And then we fail. And then we look at the team wondering why it is happening with this name hidden amongst them. We tend to look at the bigger names such as lampard Rooney and gerrard and overlook the carrick or Barry and foreseeably hendo. Why can't we stick rooney in this position in a quarterback playmaking kind of role like schweinstiger or xavi and then use another of the talented strikers we have at our disposal?
Miroslav Klose - 32 yrs old, 6 goals in 38 league games but 4 in the World Cup. Why? Why is Crouchy England's top scorer in goals per game but can't seem to get a game? German machine? Who did they face? A ****e England, a ****e Argentina and a very good Spain. When they finally faced a decent team in Spain they looked like a bunch of boys.
Is this a wind-up? Firstly Jordan Henderson didn't set the fee.Sunderland did.All countries and not just England put premiums on players moving from one club in their country to another, and this is going to continue since UEFA have put a quota on the number of home-grown players that each club must have. Liverpool did similar to Real Madrid what Sunderland did to Liverpool and what Spurs did to Man United. They screwed them.Liverpool knew that Real Madrid were short on Spanish players so they took them to the cleaners on Xabi Alonso. Now do you think that if Xabi Alonso was any other nationality except Spanish that he would have commanded a £34 million fee seeing as he was 28 at the time.Of course not. Clubs from the same country will screw each other when it comes to players of that are born in that country. And guess what they have every single right to too.Liverpool could easily slap a say £12 million fee on both Jack Robinson aged 17 and John Flanagan aged 18 if they felt like it.Why? They are English,if English clubs went sniffing around both of them, whether they would even consider selling is another matter. But as I said they have every right to.
because it is a pooly shrouded attempt to slag off a new Liverpool signing Constcrepe Hendersons contrributions are sorely needed by England if you ask me, lamps is too fat and Stevie has lost the pace
Henderson should be given more opportunities as a English CM instead of Lampard. Never rated him. While I'm no Liverpool fan (just ask KPR) England over the last decade failed to get the best out of Gerrard so they could accommodate Frank. Gerrard v Lampard. No contest.
Time for England to move on, both are past their best and therefor the best they had to offer has long gone. Time for some youth and athleticism, ye could have done with some of that in the final, no stab there, ye could have.
This is one of the stupidest attempts at a wind up I've ever seen. I agree that England's problem is that they keep using players from the old guard like Carrick and Barry, but to put Henderson in the same bracket (and to also conveniently forget Wilshere) is just a dumb attempt at a wind up. England should follow Germany's approach: remember how before the world cup they were relatively unfancied - more so when Ballack got injured, so they chucked in the two youngsters Ozil and Khedira and both of them were immense. England should do the same with the likes of Wilshere, Henderson, possibly Rodwell etc
Normally I don't agree with Contscepe. But he's actually right...for a change. To some degree the OP is right.Except when it comes to the cost of players however as its not the players that set the prices. I do think England should remove the ''old gaurd''I reckon that England should ditch and this is completely. Crouch. Defoe. Ferdinand. Terry. A Cole. Gerrard. Lampard. Carrick Barry And replace them with. Smalling. Gary Cahill. Wilshire. Henderson. Martin Kelly. Baines. Rodwell. Milner. Phil Jones.
Sorry KPR but you can#'t just dump 20 years of experience at one go, it as to be a handing over, if you dot want ot start from scratch and want to have some success during the transition, like qualification for the next WC ect. In this respect Rio smalling would make sense as they both play for the same club and Smalling is certainly good enough.
You're a piss poor troll, take it from a good one, you are as **** as your ma is in the sack, and I should know, worst £5 I ever spent.
BBF. Second thoughts your right. Like at club level the slow integration of young players blended in with the older ones does help. I reckon that the next tournament should be the last for a lot of those players that I did mention as none of them are getting any younger,Gerrard is 31,Ferdianand is 33,Terry is 30.
I'd take it a step further and have it all done by the time the finals cone about, with 3 maximum oldies as in keeper 1 cb and 1 mf, the rest I want to be young athletic and optimistic with not so developed egos as we've had
Thats how it should be done,an experienced spine. The rest can be young and enthusiastic and this helps the overall transition.I reckon even Germany didn't ditch all the ''old guard'' all at once, they kept them until the youngsters bedded in.Miroslav Klose is still there even though he's 32.
if they are good enough then of course they should be included, have Englands oldies and some younger players deserved such long standing tenure on the team. if England were to go to a world cup tomorrow Terry and Rooney would go, neither deserve it but both would be picked, this has to change, the status quo in selections for the most part is a bit inbred and the team then plays like an inbred degenerate. Almost like politics between clubs Capello and the media. Obviously not all are guarenteed places but a few are if fit and some even if not fit, like Rooney, taking an unfit\injured player to the WC is just ridiculous but Capello felt he had to include him, not for footballing reasons probably some sponsorship deal dictates rooney is in every tournament, like fat Ronaldo in france 98
It was like that when Hoddle and Venables were England managers. They due to pure bias picked Spurs players,no matter how crap they were. How often did you see Venables pick Darren Anderton, when he played 10 minutes of football in 2 months.Hoddle did the same thing with Sheringham. In 1998,''Two bob Teddy'' was on the beer and smoking cigars and he started the first game.Managers have their ''favourites'' and that may change for Englands sake in their own interests.
What a crap article. Valuating Henderson as a reason why England play poor football. Minor wum arn't you.
