£20m plus Benzema is ridiculous. Benzema is nowhere near as good as Suarez, and considering we didn't wanna sell Suarez for anything less than £50m, it would value Benzema at £30m which is ridiculous. How about we get £50m+ in cash and we can buy our own replacements? Simple. However, if he continues his fine form including the WC, we should be able to command a stupid fee.
Fair enough but you would value Benzema at probably between £40-£50million so you are talking a £60-£70 million deal here. Just because Madrid got ripped off for Bale it doesn't make Suarez worth more than this amount.
Yes it does because we can use the Bale fee as leverage ... Highly doubt we can reach £80m but I'm quite confident that if/when Real Madrid bid for him, we'll get more than the original £50m we wanted in the summer ...
So you can't say Suarez and Sturridge are any better than anyone based on a few games this season - but the above sweeping statement is fine?
The fact that Suarez can be a trouble maker and is less marketable that the likes of Bale lowers his value.
Madrid will be able to unsettle Suarez easier than they did with Bale which they can use as leverage.
Because they finished a total of three points over two seasons ahead of Liverpool, yet we won a trophy and knocked them out of the semi-final of the FA Cup in that time? Anyway, nitpicking apart, when I raised this a couple of weeks ago after another story emanating from Madrid about Luis going there in January I was roundly castigated by most Liverpool fans on here. Now, as my post history would indicate, I am and have been one of luis' biggest supporters on this site; however, I truly believe this stuff is coming out with the tacit understanding, if not overt direction, of people in Luis' camp, and for that he is responsible. I never expected him to be at Anfield after next year's world cup, but the biting of Ivanovich accelerated that departure, I believed, to last summer - the unexpected was the Arsenal factor. I still believe that had Madrid or Bayern (always my favourite to sign him, and I'm still not sure what happened there) came in last summer he would have been gone. The same applies to next summer now. But our problem now is, seeing him unsettled, Madrid are going to try cheapo tactics (who the **** wants Benzema? £20m + Benzema = £35m tops at today's prices, and he wouldn't come here anyway). That's understandable; we'd do the same if the boot was on the other foot. But what Luis (or more likely Guardiola) hopes to gain by stirring the **** in October when he can't go anyway until January, at the earliest, isn't clear. I'm not one to drivel on about how Luis 'owes us' for standing by him over past indiscretions, especially when we left him holding his dick in his hand over an appeal over the Evra nonsense. But what I will say is that the buck stops with Luis over this agitating for the next two months, that can only unsettle the club for no purpose whatsoever, and that, Luis, is something you (and your agent) can put a stop to, and you ****ing well should if you have one scintilla of respect for us.
How do you define a player's "worth"? Clearly, the money paid for and to footballers is outrageous if any moral yardstick is applied, but in the hermetically sealed world of football a player is worth whatever anyone is prepared to pay for him. If Suarez continues to perform at his current standard then someone will probably be prepared to pay whatever stupid price we ask. The football world is that crazy.
I have confidence in our owners to reject any derisory offer for Suarez. We wanted £50m plus for Suarez in the summer but no one came in with that offer, hence he stayed. Had Real or any other team had met our valuation and in good time, we would have sold him straight away. Pleased with the owners but they showed balls despite pressure and showed that we won't be pushovers in the transfer market.
Drivel. Rebel sells better than good guy, it's one of the biggest maxims - and ironies- of marketing. Nobheads who like to think that they're sticking it to the man will pay a fortune to fool themselves that they're not part of the system. As the late, great Bill Hicks said, the marketing man can screw the dollars out of every situation that occurs.
People seem to believe that Madrid have an unlimited amount of money, fact is they do not and they are one of the few who could afford Suarez. So you say that a player is worth whatever anyone is prepared to pay, so if this is the best offer on the table then by your logic this is what he is worth.
It's bad enough having United In Rage and Tobias spouting ****e on here and now we have another. No one has slated Benzema from what I've read. Very very good player. Even if his valuation is now 40 mill that makes the deal worth 60 mill. Now you might think that reflects Suarez's value but do you really think we are likely to agree. Bear in mind a few simple things...this is a player who isn't coming to the end of his contract, swap deals are notoriously complicated (and the players involved often don't perform as well if they do move) and he is a player we simply don't want to sell. Amazing how so many rival fans are desperate for us to sell him eh lads #smellthefear As for the "his baggage lowers his value" argument it's a nonsense. As a club we made it abundently clear this summer that we want him despite his issues. If another club says "we only value him at x amount because of his baggage" we say "fine, we'll just keep him then". It really isn't particularly complicated.
The most marketable athletes are not rebels, David Beckham is a great example of this. Neymar, Messi and Rory McIlroy are some of the most marketable out there right now and I would not consider any of those to be rebels.
I think the likes of Tiger and Giggs have proved that you just don't know what's going on until it all comes out!!
