So after the Man Utd game the positives are: + After that thrashing and terrible performance, our league position is no worse off + CH is very unlikely to pick Garrido, Johnson (?), Whittaker and Bunn for the next league game, who did not play well + Van Wolfswinkel should be back for the Man City game which at least gives us another option + Due to a shortage of midfielders, through injury and potentially having 4 fit strikers there is a small chance we might see the 4-4-2 some fans have been crying out for (I think it is a terrible idea personally) + We have Fox, Ayala and Surman on loan, who we could recall should we really need to + Jonny Howson, Rusty, Martin Olsson and John Ruddy who I think have been good for us are likely to play against City, hopefully Tettey will too + We have a January transfer window where we can afford (and may need) to reinforce. + If the injury problems are bad we could get an emergency loan (maybe Zaha, could that happen? ) And the many negatives: - We have been eliminated from the League Cup -All the progress and improvement made over the course of the season seems to have dissapered during that game - We made a mediocre Manchester United side look world-class and fuelled the Januzaj hype and generally humiliated ourselves - Bassong and R. Bennett have both been shaky when they have played. We have Turner who has been ok but whatever centre-half pairing we put out, I am not confident - Fer was fairly sloppy, giving away a penalty and his passing and defending was not good, just like the rest of the team - Snodgrass (I think our most important attacking player) is very likely to miss some games - Redmond could possibly miss the next game, so the worst case scenario is that we have 3 (!) wingers out for Man City leaving just the injury-prone Pilkington - Tettey could also be sidelined through injury, which would force us to play Johnson Last night's terrible performance showed that we did at least perform well against Cardiff and Chelsea even if the results didn't go our way. Really want to see improvement against Man City and a win against West Ham. Get well soon Snoddy! OTBC
i have to say well done for finding any positives after last night! of course, there are still plenty of positives and frankly, we probably weren't ever likely to win the competition, but confidence and the injuries picked up mean last night was an unmitigated disaster from start to finish. i wouldn't want zaha here though. no better than redmond.
negative - 1. for whatever reason, our 'squad' players do not perform - we saw this last season vs Luton. i don't know whether that is down to poor management or poor attitude 2. Wes is half the player he was 3. We can't score for toffee
I'll be happy with 6 points from our games in November: 2nd Nov Man City (A) - lets face it, extremely unlikely we'll get anything 9th Nov West Ham (H) - very much winnable 23rd Nov Newcastle (A) - arguably winnable, but a draw or a loss is far more likely 30th Nov Palace (H) - very much winnable Hopefully 6 points will get our league position looking a bit better going into December.
wes was absolutely horrific. sad to say it but his legs have completely gone and his brain isn't turning as quickly as it used to. he's a goner.
Agreed, Zaha was very average last night, I still hope we will bring in someone like Toivonen in January but CH might have other priorities.
I'd be deliriously happy with 6 points in Nov, cause you can't win games without goals, and whilst we kept a clean sheet against a very poor Cardiff, I can't see us getting more than one if that possibly against palace! Bah!
Positives: I went to the HIM gig at the UEA last night and it was excellent We made a bit of cash out of the game Negatives: All the euphoria of the gig soon wore off when I saw the score afterwards. Snoddy and Redmond got injured I never expected a result from the game but hoped we might give a good account of ourselves - I was clearly delusional.
I'd say we are going to get 4 points from those games, West Ham will be a draw, Newcastle if they play well could beat us and we must surely beat Palace.
It may well depend on injuries, but those 3 games have potential for decent points, 4 at the minimum, but potentially up to 6 or 7. The next 6 games after those also offer decent points potential and by then we'll have a much better idea of the potential for this squad.
and hopefully we can have a fully fit rvw and hooper available because i don't think either player has been 100% fit at all this season!
Positives: We can concentrate on the relegation battle ahead now; Man Utd are no great shakes and will win nothing this year; Negatives: Everything else.
Sorry Carrabuh but Superman is right. Wes is but a pale shadow of past years. I was not impressed, especially as I got up at 4a.m. to watch the game.
Toivonen might not be in the new managers thoughts? If this slide continues the board will never give CH the jan budget to waste !
Of all the sticks to bash him with, that's the first time I've heard an accusation of wasting the transfer budget!
