Downes lined up for QPR coaching role 29/10/2013 By David McIntyre Wally Downes has been approached about replacing Steve McClaren in a coaching role at QPR. Manager Harry Redknapp is looking to make an addition to his backroom team following McClarenâs recent departure to take over as Derby boss. And Downes, a Hammersmith-born lifelong Râs fan, looks set to fill the void. He has been out of the game since leaving his job as first-team coach at West Ham in December last year, having previously had similar roles at Southampton and Reading. The 52-year-old, who had a spell as Brentford manager between 2002 and 2004, spent most of his playing career at Wimbledon. Downes later spent many years as a coach at Crystal Palace where he worked with Steve Coppell, who took him to Brentford in 2000.
Yes, but we knew that we wouldn't have McClaren for more than few months if there were managerial vacancies. Who else is out there? Can't expect to get a top notch coach at the moment because they are already working.
Really is a local chap....family lived around wormholt park area, he went to Wormholt primary school and clement danes secondary.....
