Thanks for your slightly condescending reply Swords. The fact that I had a pint with whoever a few weeks ago doesn't affect how I may or may not interact with that person on this board. Yes, it makes me respect people more but if I have something to say to anybody whether I've met them or not, I'll say it. The dynamics of the board is not affected in any way by whether certain people have met each other in real life or not. In fact, I would say the dynamics of the board are enhanced by people meeting each other and mutually respecting each other. You really should try meeting a few people from here Swords. That's my advice to you.
That's not what I'm on about mate. I'm simply saying it was better when there was a bit of "bite" to proceedings. Nothing more, nothing less. People were attacked in the past. That was wrong. I attacked people verbally. Very wrong and quite embarrassing. Still, its important not to lose sight of the fact that its an internet message Board and not the Nuremberg Trials we're running here. Its easy to get carried away now and again but we must try to stay true to the Board's roots. Banter, loose Moderation and a bit of needle now and again. I see no harm in that whatsoever. Actually, I believe its imperative. Sku, cheers mate and thanks for opening this thread. Its turning out to be very interesting just like Uber's.
I'm slightly flummoxed as to the agenda here. Thank you Queens and SB for your excellent input. But as for for Sku and his now seemingly best mate Swords. What is it that you exactly seek on here? Please spell it out clearly and concisely so that I can try to accommodate you both. I've had no complaints from any other poster. If there are and have yet to do so please speak your piece now....
Fair enough Fingi, didn't mean to sound condescending. You could be totally right you know. Its just a theory I came up with as to why the Board feels a little flat of late. But like most of my theories, its probably bunkum.
Swords Hoopster. thank you for your candid feedback. QPR999s - I have no agenda nor any complaints. Simply an observation - that Swords Hoopster. summed up better than I articulated - that the forum was 'better with a bit of bite to proceedings'...... as the replies to this very thread have evidenced. My original post was asking whether it was due to the prosaic football. And I think this is true in part - as you opined early on. I do also believe that a few spiky opinions - if carried without any personal insults - add great richness. Thank you for letting this thread run.
I had an inkling you might have thought this was directed at you. This has absolutely nothing to do with you mate. Or Roller, or anyone else. Its no-one's fault. Its just the Board has lost some of its zest, is all. Totally and utterly nothing got to do with the Mods whatsoever, both of whom are doing a terrific job as far as I'm concerned. I'm just giving my ideas on how to jazz the place up a bit. Get the passion generated and the debate flowing once more. Its not meant as an affront on anyone, just a few observations. As an aside, Stan's riposte above was, hand on heart, the first time I physically laughed out load when on this Board in months. That's the kind of stuff we've been lacking recently and it would be brilliant if we could get some of that witty argument back on a regular basis.
WHOOSH! Right over head. I didn't say needle people. I said a bit of needle to the debates. Quite a difference. BTW, where the hell'd you come out of all of a sudden?!! Your last post was two and a half months ago!!
Ha Ha! Alright Gandy lad. Bloody hell, I talked about London buses earlier but this is getting ridiculous. EspanaCol, Imaz, El Tel and now you Gandy. Well if nothing else this thread has tempted a few old favourites out of the shadows. Oi Gandy, any chance you could have a word with your Guvnor over there and get my ban lifted? Its been over a year now. Surely I'm due for parole at this stage?
Could the quiet nature of the board have anything to do with the reduced access to the games? I managed to view probably 35 games last season and have only seen one so far so am limited in scope to say X should be played, Y needs a rest etc. I cling to the views of those that go and soak up highlights but it leaves me with a view proffered by others (appreciated as it is) and little scope for counter argument. Soccer Saturday doesn't give me much insight to debate with.
On the money for me Matt we are suffering from being in the limelight for sure IMO . As to contributions of any poster to this board well it makes my points last year even more apt regarding it being open and free ... Don't get me wrong it is but when for example Swords was attacked then I said at the time then the board was worse without him .. Same applies to Cerny but he burnt any bridges with a nasty outburst and can no longer continue Brixton did things on here his way but that was a different time and so maybe we are all feeling a new transition .... Feel that Brixton would agree that the overall thing is bigger than any of the small parts We still have no here a great spectrum of views regarding our club from Taarabt haters to Harold haters Football at QPR doesn't at the moment grab me the same way regardless of league position but I am bound to be wrong as I usually am and we should go up... Then I feel there could be more meat on the bone as Harold builds our PL league side or we miss out and Harold fails either way there is a horizon of debate in the distance Long may the debates continue as we all have an opinion and what I feel is still good is that we attract and welcome other posters from other clubs
What constitutes a 'successful board' I wonder? Perhaps it's akin to asking people what defines happiness. It's an interesting point to consider though. For me, it's not down to sheer number of posts - it's the richness of them that is the defining point - and that's subjective. As this thread has illustrated, there's several posters that have been prompted sufficiently to contribute after a period of time away. Perhaps this gives an indication. It would be interesting to look at the following and create a daily stat: Total number of daily posts Total number of unique contributors Average days since last post It could even be a formula based on the values above as a balanced score. Maths was never my strongest subject - anyone prepared to put up a formula?
That is quite pertinent actually. For those who think controversial topics and strong opinions are not positive things for this Board, why then did EspanaCol, El Tel, Imaz etc all just mysteriously appear out of thin air last night after months without posting? Answer that question honestly Gentlemen. (Like it Killy!)
