It caused a riot a hundred years ago. Pretty well accepted now. But then we do have a lot of posters here who want to return to the distant past. Some of them even believe in wingers.
Wingers? Do you mean the kind that used to play in the "W" formation? They'd hug the touchline weren't expected to do any donkey work like tracking back, and if the half-back didn't pass the ball to him it wasn't his fault. If they did get the ball though they were expected to take on the full-back and risk getting a kicking in the process. They were tricky little buggers who learned their trade in the playground and in the streets. Steve Coppell came along and spoiled their nice cosy life by working hard for 90 minutes and setting a precedent. Surprising there wasn't a demarkation dispute.
If ever we are all bored and need a good debate to get the juices flowing, can I suggest my personal bete noir as a suitable topic ? The public smoking ban. This really gets my goat. I am fortunate enough to earn my living working in the most beautiful building in the world IMO, the House of Commons, but every morning thanks to Gruppenfuhrer Blair I have to stand outside it freezing my knackers off to enjoy a smoke. One of the few civilizing pleasures left in life, now reduced to a pneumonia inducing drag
I remember watching Pixie Lott on Soccer AM claiming to be half charlton half west ham through her parents, but she didnt seem overly commital about either club..... I suspect she probably had an album to promote at the time.....
