What is it with the general fan and Journalist that they truly believe Forster is ahead and better than John Ruddy... It is driving me completely potty every single time Hart makes a mistake its Forster's name that gets put forward. This evening on Talks**** there talking WC squad for next year and this was Stan Collymore's tweet... Stan Collymore ‏@StanCollymore 17m We've chatted goalies. Common consensus 3 from 4 Hart/Butland/Foster/Forster, @talkSPORT ON AIR #MNFN NO JOHN RUDDY... He is clearly better than 3 of those keepers, to be honest probably all of them but why does he constantly get overlooked by the wider public and media although he is clearly in Hodgsons plans and probably number 2 at this present time.... It is still like Norwich City does not exist and not one player deserves to play for England Rant over..
It is now destiny that Hart has an absolute stormer against us. It's written. Also, we have a habit of making other teams' 'keepers look brilliant. I think we need to focus on making our shots unsaveable - that way, no matter how well the 'keeper is playing, they won't save the bloody thing. Five clean sheets up to Christmas and Hodgson will be looking at Ruddy, even if the media aren't
That's usually distinctively mediocre keepers who play well against us, wait a minute did I just call Hart mediocre?
A lot of my friends have got caught in the fraser forster hype, because no one watches him every week and he's performed when in the shop window on sky against barca people are going bezerk. Luckily I think roy will listen to his goalkeeping coach on this who sees ruddy on a day to day basis and i'm sure is working hard with him. I personally don't rate foster after his man united quotes and see him as a shot stopper only, ruddy follows his tremendous saves up more often than not with a morale boosting clean catch from a corner. It's something i've been pointing out to anyone that will listen. Nearly every time he makes a top save he follows it up with a great corner catch and gets us going again. He really is a special keeper in my eyes.
I don't watch Fraser Forster every week so I can't compare. All I remember is that he was bloody brilliant for us. I will never forget THAT save against Tranmere. However, John Ruddy is, in my humble opinion, the best English 'keeper currently playing in England. Hart has been below average for months now and I can just see him making another massive clanger at next summer's World Cup that will see England knocked out. Ruddy or Forster have to take his place for the national team's own good, and I say that as an England fan, not a Norwich fan. P.S. Butland?!?!? He plays for the team second bottom in the Championship?
To make it even more annoying, I bet if you suggested to the 'Forster for England' camp that Gary Hooper will be hoping to break into the England team this season they would merely laugh and point to the fact he's only scored his goals in a mickey mouse league and has no chance.
jack butland? he's playing for barnsley foster is injured isn't he so difficult to know what form he will come back with
Pretty much agree with that order. I feel that Hart is generally a better natural keeper then Ruddy, but the thing Ruddy is better at than all mentioned is in between the ears. His decision making and commanding his area is superior to the others. For that reason I almost feel he would be the best for tournament matches. He keeps his cool and is a calming influence on the others in the team.
do people think the media's opinion of ruddy has dropped because of the odd average performance (eg chelsea) and the fact we are bottom 3?
He was superb against Arsenal and didn't put a foot wrong on Saturday, I can't honestly remember the last time he had a 'bad game' - particularly when you consider some of the performances Hart has put in over the past twelve months
Chelsea is probably his only bad game since one unfortunate game under Lambert in the Prem (I can't remember which - maybe against City away?) and before that matches in his first season with us. I didn't think he was at fault for the sending off against Chelsea that year, so it wasn't that one. Unfortunately, the Chelsea match (this season) was also one where (a) Hodgson was present and (b) scrutiny of Joe Hart was considerable so there was more attention paid to Ruddy's performance. It doesn't help that we are in the bottom three either, but I think Hodgson is smart enough (even if the press aren't) to see through that. As I said before, I think if he keeps five clean sheets between now and Christmas, not only will we have shot up the table, he will also be at the forefront of Hodgson's mind. After all, the press merely follow Hodgson's signals - picking Forster was a signal, but it doesn't tell us their precedence in Hodgson's mind and so we have no signals about Ruddy's position (other than I think he was on the bench for each qualifier, which I suppose is enough). Forster has a massive advantage in the English press and with the general footballing contingent that he isn't in the public eye often.
It wasn't as if he had a shocker against Chelsea though was it, he flapped at a couple (once when he was clearly fouled by Ba) and he certainly couldn't be faulted for any of the goals - and in fact he somehow managed to get his fingertips to Willian's fantastic strike for the third goal which was millimetres from being one of THE saves of the season. If that was a bad performance then I guess it just shows the impeccably high standard he has created for himself over the past few seasons
Yeah, he uncharacteristically flapped at balls in the first half (entirely due to the sun, though I think you're allowed to wear a hat so he should have done that). He also should have done a lot better with Hazard's strike - yes, a few other players made mistakes and it was an easy chance which Hazard should have put away, but I would have expected Ruddy to save that particular shot 9 times out of 10, comfortably. It was doubly unfortunate that the break away goal was actually the key one - from that moment we no longer looked like winning. If he had saved that, I'm positive we would have got a point or more and the Willian goal is somewhat irrelevant. But yes, I agree in the grand scheme of bad goalkeeping, that wasn't it, but it was a poor game by Ruddy's standards.
Oh yeah, I kinda forgot about Ruddy's part in that and only remembered Tettey's cock-up to let him in.
The reason I like Ruddy is because he is quite bulky for a goal keeper. These days GKs tend to be tall and thin which is obviously good for agility but it has also led to there being almost no physicality to the GK's game. Ruddy has the height and the agility but also a much larger frame than the likes of Forster and Hart and most of the top GKs in the Prem. That can only be a plus in terms of his ability to come and claim balls from crosses and generally control his area. Also, that extra width across the shoulders is just a few more inches of person to try and get the ball around! I certainly wouldn't want to try and get passed Ruddy with him charging out of goal at me!
The Times are reporting that Hart may be dropped against us on Saturday. If so, I trust Pantilimon to have a blinder.
