I was amazed he didn't play on Sunday, obviously in the end we didn't need him but it's got me thinking.
After the comments from Gus about leaving big name players out who are not giving their all at the AOL seems he was referring to Giacc.
I'd be gutted if we lost him in January but that seems quite likely now.
    Anyone heard anything?

The lad battles in games. His work rate is unbelievable so I don't think it's his work rate in training that's seen him left out.

Concerns me as I'm a massive fan of the lad. Really think we need to keep hold of him. He's like Sess but full of effort.

It is odd. Hope he's back in the team soon or he will want to leave with the World Cup coming up.

For me he is a player that we should play against bigger teams as he gets time on the ball he struggle to be competitive when playing against players who get amongst you and put pressure on.

All speculation guys which may or may not be right!

My opinion is sort of in line with the comment Gus made after the match "I didn't take Cattermole off for Ki because Ki is a better player, they are both very good players but Ki gives something different in that position" - so it could just have been he's seen the lads in training and knew who he wanted to do which job (Larsson in that cse) - I reckon, had Bardsley not ended up hurt/injured/whatever Giaccherini would've been on at some point possibly for Larsson to try to force the win but Gus' hand was forced unfortunately. I very much doubt that his comments about players not being up for it were aimed at Giaccherini. Larsson gave us more in midfield when they had the ball. Along with an outlet on the right when we had it - Giaccherini is a little less effective in that central role as he doesn't play in such a defensive manner

Personally I think he was looking for Derby experience where he could. He knew he had a bench full of match winners too. Crafty devil. I wouldn't speculate that Giacc was dropped for being Lazy because blatantly he's not. Just cause Poyet suggested he might drop players on effort doesn't mean every decision he makes is based on that logic. He made them comments after the Swansea game. He's had a week of training, things and views change.

Doubt it was anything to do with that. I just think the derby wasn't really the game for him. He's only a small fella and gets bullied off the ball a little easily at times - he would hasve struggled vs. the mags imo. I reckon this was Gus' thinking also.

His name was mentioned on the BBC gossip column the other day, Inter being interested allegedly.

Who knows how true any of it is.

This is what I thought when the team was announced. Derbys normally start at a million miles an hour with little skill involved. Still I thought he would play some part later on.
Think I'll leave team selection to Gus. He seems to know what he's doing.

It's my opinion mate. If thats ok with you.
Wouldn't want you to be bragging that you hounded me off the board in a few months time...<laugh>
Giacc is desperate to make Brazil, the reason he signed for us is to enhance his chances with Italy. He wont be happy sitting on the Sunderland bench.

You're getting wound up over nothing again.

I'm just saying that you're suggesting we'll lose a player with very little evidence to back it up ........ that's my opinion which is what threads invite isn't it?

Other people disagree but you pick me out to have a twist, fair enough.

I dont think I said he will leave. I'm not privy to that sort of info.
I think we can all agree the chances of him leaving will be enhanced greatly without a swift return to the first 11.

I didn't say you did, I said 'suggesting' not stating.

"I'd be gutted if we lost him in January but that seems quite likely now."

Sorry if I misunderstood what you were attempting to say ;)

He's only sat out one game mate. Long season ahead and it is a squad game. Don't fret fella, he'll get plenty of game time.

I'd like to think Poyet used the personnel who he knew would be aware of what it takes to win a 'derby'..
If that's what he did... Well... Didn't he do well !!
I'm not saying Giacc isn't 'up' for a battle coz I think the bloke has class in abundance, I still think he will be a starter against Hull.
Maybe GP is going to be shrewd in picking his team.. Addressing the oppositions qualities accordingly?
Whatever his reasons... Did any of us disagree at full time on Sunday???... Nah, didn't think so!!

Nah, I quite like my name as it is - reminds me of the 3-0 hammering we gave the scum at their place! No matter what followed with PDC, we'll always have that :)

Agreed. I wouldn't read too much into it. Wouldn't surprise me if he started on Saturday.

I'm 100% sure he'll be involved ........ we need to keep the ball off Hull and get the crowd on their back and crying for an 'up and under' <laugh>

Giaccherini and Ki are just the kind of players to do that.

I think Colback will miss out but I don't think that means he'll be leaving Sunderland after missing just one game.
