So what SHOULD we/the fans do?!

Discussion in 'Newcastle United' started by Keith Fit, Oct 28, 2013.

?

What do Newcastle fans need to do?

  1. Boycott matches in a vague attempt to force Ashley to sell?

  2. Organise another protest after the wild success of the first

  3. Ignore hype, go to matches and simply let it be

  4. Proactively create online groups to seek out a buyer

In the interest of polls and to try and determine what people feel is the right thing, what should the fans do next?

I think protesting is ineffective and could make us look daft, as well as putting off prospective purchasers.

Whatever we do MA will simply chuckle and ignore us.

As many have said maybe the best thing is to boycott his shirts, pies and bars.... even then I suppose he is so rich it wouldn't effect him.

Last option if we can, after the club banning the Chronicle I'm half tempted to boycott cup matches after the Man City match.

"I'm never gonna do it again. Just one more hit/drag/match....."

Problem is, footy's addictive, we only get one life and it seems a bit annoying that we have to not go/watch/put our children in amusing junior kits just to make a point. The guy already knows we hate him anyway, so I think the only thing a boycott does is counter-productive; makes us look like we're too fickle and, if I were gonna spend £250m + extras, I wouldn't want to do it knowing a few crap performances could empty the stadium. (yes, it's not as simple as that, but it's a risk)

    Stay away from the games.

Best way to hit him in the pocket, no half time beer/pie etc and makes a stand without causing a huge stir.

I'd love us to not have one home fan for 3 or 4 games, he'd soon realise he's fighting a losing battle. Sadly this will never happen as season ticket holders aren't going to not go to a game that they've already paid for.

    Option 3 for me.
I'd never boycott a game as that hampers the players performance and ultimately is detrimental to the club.
A subtle boycott of all things Ashley is my thing.
I ballsed up betting the new top with Sissoko on, outside of that I'm struggling to remember spending a penny in his shops.
My beer is drunk mainly in the Shark club now.
    No particular reason like.

Option three is the least productive for me. It just lets Ashley carry on as he is without any hassle or consequences.

Coventry City don't even go to home games anymore. They play at Northampton and as a finger up to the administrators and new regime, they don't attend. They pack the away end out. If they didn't have a 10pt deduction from administrators, they'd be 2nd. They're within touching distance of the play-off places and have just beaten the top side away.

Not that I'm advocating the stay-away, but I don't necessarily think it's as detrimental to team performance as you'd think.

Was just thinking along similar lines. How exactly can we damage the team by boycotting games.
Damage team morale ? There is none
Demoralise the team ? Not possible already apparent they are demoralised
Damage the team spirit ? See the above
You cannot damage a team that doesn't care, maybe one or two do, but collectively they are emotionless
Or an owner that doesn't care
He wants money and that's all, even though he is a billionaire, he won't want to see the stadium empty, some will say if revenue drops we are less attractive to a new owner, but anyone with sense would know that NUFC is one of the best supported clubs going, and that would never change in the long term.
I don't want NUFC to be a mediocre mid to bottom nothingness of a club, l don't expect us to win the premiership or be in the CL season after season, but is it really too much to ask for a committed owner, with some investment into our club and team that is not purely financial, and then only when he thinks relegation is a real possibility. Other owners have true passion for their respective clubs, and most do not have Ashley's level of wealth at their disposal.

Option 3 unfortunately, hopeless situation. 30 years ago you might have been able to influence thinking a little, now these billionaires are completely uninterested in what fans want to a certain extent. They need us to sell their product. Our situ isn't great and certainly wish things were better, but in the grand scheme of football it could be a lot worse. Sounds defeatist but options 1,2, and 4 are completely non productive as you are asking a lot of people to sing from the same hymn sheet. It isn't going to happen.

Oh and Mike's a ****er. Always.

This may be controversial... But I've had a stinker today and I'm in the mood for a discussion with Pouchy <laugh>

I think the question is a bit loaded, in that anybody with a ST has a vested interest in pretending they aren't part of the problem. At the end of the day, if you bought a ST this year, you have a right to complain, but shouldn't because we ALL knew what this year would be like in terms of investment. We've had enough season's warning now, and nobody here is stupid enough to believe it would be different, especially if you bought your ST after Joe Kinnear was appointed <doh>

I feel a bit for those who signed up for 10 year deals, because we were on the up and buzzing at that point, but for those year to year guys, it's inexcusable to turn around and complain now. ST holders gave up their money knowing what was happening. For the most part, that money is Ashley's now, there's nowt we can do about it. However, 25,000 or however many isn't a full capacity ST James' and the occasionals can still stick it to him and make an actual valid protest. Giving him your money then singing nasty songs is just pathetic, he must be laughing at you.

The "f*** it, let's just go to games and hope he changes" attitude is a bit gutless, in my opinion, and I doubt very much there's anybody amongst us who actually believes it.

Significantly lower gate receipts would force some kind of change, I genuinely believe it, and be more effective than packing out the ground week on week to cheer on a uniquely mentally and physically deficient squad to lackluster efforts. I mean, getting rid of Ashley may not be the answer I'm talking about, just getting him to f***ing buck up his ideas a bit.

Being fair to ACS, I'm rarely there, so he's probably left trying to picture red hair on the uggo waitress staff most weeks...
