Gareth Barry credited with Everton's doubly dubious goal against Hull City The Premier League's dubious goals panel has ruled Gareth Barry, and not Kevin Mirallas, scored the controversial opener in Everton's 2-1 victory over Hull City on Saturday, October 19. Tigers boss Steve Bruce was furious the goal was allowed to stand after claiming Mirallas' shot was touched in by Barry from an off-side position. Bruce said after the match at Goodison: "There is no one more of an admirer than I of Gareth Barry, he is a really great player, but he has nudged the first (goal) and changed the course of the ball standing a yard offside. "The linesman has got to flag - he (Barry) is a yard offside and he touches it, I am 100 per cent certain of it and he runs away like he's touched it. I'm not saying it's the referee's fault but surely the linesman has to flag for offside even if he hasn't touched it as he has stepped over it, so he has to be interfering with play." The news comes as City digest the controversial penalty decision that handed Tottenham victory in a tight encounter a White Hart Lane on Sunday. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/story-19997901-detail/story.html? http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2013/10/28/barry-credited-with-hull-strike?
So it's been officially acknowledged as a mistake by the officials. They should be demoted to the conference south for a month and perhaps receive six of the best.
I assume that Barry must have claimed the goal - just makes his comments afterwards (about not knowing whether or not he touched the ball) look even worse!
Many will say that the extra 2 points we got from the Spammers have been taken away by Everton and Spurs. Deuce maybe ? 3 wrongs dont make a right though.
There should be retrospective punishment for **** refereeing, then the PL would be ****ed. Step forward Michael Oliver - blunder of the week.
Kevin Friend(West Ham), Neil Swarbrick(Everton) and Michael Oliver(Spurs) should all report to OLM for appropriate punishments.
