There's also some kind of reference to sheep rustlers I remember reading.

"Woolyback" refers to the cross-species, ovine inseminating, mutant offspring of the denizens of Greater Manchester.

I went to sixth form in Bolton, they call them Barms there and put pasties in them.

Pasty on a barm is a Bolton delicacy.

1 . If it's big, and you slice it then it's a cob
    2. It you put ham in it, it's a roll
    3. if you stuff it with bacon, it's a bap or buttie

but never a barm. "baaaaaaarm", v northern :p

Where were you brought up? A buttie is only ever sliced bread.

The chippie in the town where I live is the official home of the deep fried mars bar. Perhaps not relevant to the question, but I thought I'd throw it out there <ok>

    And it's a bun.

    Stonehaven?

A bun has currants in or is a hot-cross - sweet not savoury.

Hot that sort of pastie. A flatter meat and potato pastie with HP sauce. Top. And it was in a buttie, not a barm <ok>

The other fella said a barm mate. <ok>

I like an occasional pastie, but in a buttie? That's never right.

The next great debate - brown sauce or ketchup on your chip butty?

    Brown all day for me.

    Anyone who says mayo .......
